The Portfolio Manager I serves as the gateway keeper to new Commercial & Industrial loan deals. In this role, you will collaborate closely with the Commercial Relationship Manager/Sales Officer to better understand the client needs, historical cash flow data related to the performance of the company’s past, and industry data to qualify the commercial clients loan requests. This role is also responsible for assisting loan officers in the portfolio management activities (generally loans over $1,000,000). This role will manage assigned credit portfolio, manage the associated credit risk, and identify opportunities for expansion.

   

How you will spend your time:

  • Perform detailed credit analysis to determine borrower/guarantor repayment capacity, appropriate loan structuring recommendations and complete credit packages for credit committee approval (new business/reaffirmations) submission.

  • Preparation of underwriting documents will also include collateral analysis on multiple asset classes and preparation of pricing and risk rating models suitable for each credit request.

  • Continuously monitor borrowing base reports and covenant compliance with regular reporting requirements to loan officers and loan/credit monitoring and credit review.

  • Establish protocols and maintain tracking of documentation exceptions, past dues, field exams, borrowing base reports and covenant exceptions.

  • Recognize and manage early warning signs for the portfolio on a recurring basis, which may include but are not limited to the following: analyze borrower/guarantor financial performance upon receipt of reporting requirements, either monthly, quarterly or annually.

  • Fully analyze and confirm borrowing base and financial covenant compliance, analyze payment performance benchmarks and perform regular financial reviews.

  • Provide recurring customer service to existing and prospective clients, which includes direct contact with customers either through participation in joint sales calls with loan officers or direct correspondence with clients and perform various projects/tasks as needed with an emphasis on maintaining UMB TUCE at all times.

  • File all required reports, and resolve all related issues in a timely and efficient manner.

  • Gather an understanding of the technical engineering and reserve analysis process in order to develop the skills and knowledge required to assist the Sr. Portfolio Mgr. & lenders in completing technical underwriting process.

  • Work with the senior energy PM and Energy lending officers to gain industry, basin, and energy lending-specific technical knowledge and grow core competencies.

  • Partner with loan officers throughout the UMB footprint to effectively administer the management of assigned Commercial Energy relationships.

  • You have a Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting, Finance or related fields 3 years banking or equivalent regulatory/bank policy experience including credit analysis or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background

  • You have a current valid driver's license

  • You have demonstrated knowledge and understanding of how to identify and process maturing loans, line renewals, term loans that need to be extended, loans that can be restructured, the approval process, changing terms, etc.

  • You have a working knowledge of specialized energy lending and energy sector terminology

  • You have a strong level of understanding of credit underwriting

  • You have a demonstrated knowledge of bank products, services, and bank operations

  • You have a demonstrated ability to interpret policies/procedures, loan contracts, and understanding of credit reports, financial statements and loan documents

  • You demonstrate strong analytical skills

  • You have the ability to be self-starter and show initiative

  • You have a demonstrated familiarity with commercial lending software

Compensation Range:

Minimum: $51,480.00 - Maximum: $119,200.00
