ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW
The BNL Environmental Protection Division’s (EPD) mission is to ensure that the Laboratory operates effectively while meeting regulatory requirements of numerous environmental laws including: National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), multiple cultural resource laws, Clean Air Act (CAA), Clean Water Act (CWA), Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA), Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act, Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), and Department of Energy monitoring and reporting requirements. The group interfaces with a broad spectrum of workers across the Lab to support compliant operations as well as collect, review, and report environmental data to DOE and regulatory agencies. The group is responsible for preparing the annual Environmental Monitoring Plan, the annual Site Environmental Report, the annual Consumer Confidence Report, and supports the development and execution of the Lab’s Site Sustainability Plan (SSP).

POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Environmental Protection Division has an opening for an Environmental Compliance Representative (ECR)/Staff Engineer. This position may be filled at either the P5 or P7 level. Placement will be based on the successful candidate's education, experience, technical expertise, demonstrated competencies, and ability to independently perform the responsibilities of the position.
Working under the direction of the Environmental Compliance Group Manager, the successful candidate will serve as the primary environmental representative for assigned Laboratory organizations. The ECR functions as a trusted environmental advisor, partnering with scientific, engineering, operations, maintenance, and construction organizations to integrate environmental requirements into planning and work execution while supporting Brookhaven National Laboratory's research and operational missions through practical compliance solutions, environmental stewardship, and continual improvement.

This is a multi-level role and the full salary range for this position is $118000 - $130000 / year. You will be placed at the level and salary commensurate with your experience. Salary offers will be commensurate with the final candidate’s qualification, education and experience and considered with the internal peer group.
