Mercy Hospital offers a wide range of surgical services. Whether patients require minimally invasive procedures or major surgeries, this surgical team is dedicated to providing patients with excellent care in a safe, family-friendly environment. This position is part of Cleveland Clinic’s Weekender Flex Program and will require you to work two 12-hour shifts per weekend and one 12-hour shift during the week. Weekend shift options start at 7:00pm on Fridays and end at 7:30am on Mondays. While you are only working 36 hours a week, Cleveland Clinic will pay you for 44 hours of work and give you full-time status and benefits. This schedule allows caregivers to enjoy personal time during the week with family and friends and take care of any errands that will not interfere with a typical day shift schedule.
A caregiver in this position works three 12-hour night shifts and one 8-hour bonus shift per week. Holiday shifts are per policy and no-call required.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Perform scrub functions.
Set up the sterile table and ensure appropriate supplies, drugs and equipment are available.
Assists RN in counting all sponges, instruments, etc. at appropriate times during surgery.
Assist in gowning and gloving surgical team members and draping patients.
Ensure aseptic condition is maintained by the scrubbed surgical team through the procedure.
Participate in the intraoperative “timeout.”
Collect, identify and label specimens removed during surgical procedures and gives specimens to circulator for disposition.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Completion of a surgical technology program accredited through the CAAHEP or ABHES OR completion of a military surgical technology program OR certification as a Surgical Technologist (acceptable certifications for this route are TS-C (through the National Center for Competency Training) or CST (through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting).
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA).
