Brightree is seeking a Staff Software Engineer with deep expertise in data systems and relational databases to own and evolve the core data model powering the Brightree BMS platform. This role operates horizontally across product and engineering teams and provides clear technical ownership of the platform’s data foundation, balancing immediate performance and reliability needs with long‑term scalability.

This is a hands‑on, high‑impact Staff role. You’ll work closely with product managers, senior engineers, DBAs, and platform teams to shape data‑layer decisions, proactively reduce systemic risk, and improve customer experience by removing bottlenecks in data design, performance, and schema evolution.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the platform’s core data foundation, setting direction for how the data model evolves across teams

  • Guide schema design and evolution to support both near‑term delivery and long‑term platform integrity

  • Ensure consistency, integrity, and scalability across shared and high‑impact data domains

  • Lead and support high‑volume table redesigns (e.g., SODTL and other critical transactional surfaces)

  • Proactively identify, triage, and mitigate database performance and scalability risks

  • Partner closely with DBAs and engineering teams on performance tuning, concurrency challenges, and reliability issues

  • Think strategically about near real‑time data replication and synchronization patterns

  • Influence and contribute to broader data platform modernization initiatives

  • Act as a trusted technical advisor to teams, raising the bar for data decisions without becoming a delivery bottleneck

Required Skills & Experience

  • 10+ years of overall experience in IT/software engineering, with a strong focus on building and evolving data‑intensive systems

  • Extensive experience with Microsoft SQL Server, including schema design, performance tuning, and high‑volume transactional workloads

  • Strong background in .NET and C#, with experience supporting or building large‑scale enterprise applications

  • Familiarity with data pipelines and analytics platforms (e.g., Snowflake or similar)

  • Deep expertise in relational database design, schema evolution, and performance optimization

  • Strong background in data modeling for complex, high‑scale transactional systems

  • Proven experience working with high‑volume, mission‑critical data
