As a Billing Specialist II, you’ll own complex billing for large commercial, gas transport, and wholesale customers—diving deep into data while driving efficiencies and process improvements. This role is ideal for someone who takes initiative, thrives in change, and lives in Excel. This is a Hybrid role with occasional in-office collaboration to support cross-functional work and project execution.
Job Summary
Billing Specialist II ensures the accuracy and timeliness of customer bills through the use of existing billing systems and software. This position performs tasks related to customer billing, including data compilation, analysis, auditing, and reporting. This role provides support for the department, including the administration of performance metrics and quality audit reviews. This position provides support to other customer service departments and customers.
What you will do- Responsible for accurately billing, researching, and supporting daily billing functions, including rate comparison, tariff and contract interpretation, and proper rate application.
- Reviews and analyzes system requests to change electric and gas rates for utility customers.
- Prepares costs and rate comparisons of basic to complex tariffs or contracts for large electric and gas customers.
- Assists with preparation for utility and commodity contract negotiations with account management, operations, and customers regarding tariffs and equipment.
- Works with electric and gas metering operations to identify the need for meter installs/removes/exchanges, allowing for appropriate metering based on rate criteria.
- Provides initial and/or on-going training for employees and identifies, evaluates, and implements business process improvements, including participating in cross-functional process improvement teams.
- Develops, reviews, and prepares documentation that supports training, manuals, procedures, and processes in the department. Ensures documents and procedures are in compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX) requirements.
- Conducts SOX audits and completes user acceptance/parallel testing on existing and new rates.
- Analyzes information and understands how systems process data to formulate trouble ticket resolution, the development of automation and process improvements.
- Engages in other duties as needed that support Alliant Energy’s Values and helps deliver on our Purpose to serve customers and build stronger communities.
Education Requirements- Bachelor's Degree Preferred
Required Experience- 3 years experience in customer billing operations, accounting, information technology, or related area
Preferred Experience- Experience in utility or related industry in billing, pricing, or economic analyses applicable to the utility industry
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities- Demonstrated ability to interpret contract language and the understanding of applicable tariffs.
- Demonstrated solid problem-solving skills and the ability to work with others to find solutions to customer requests.
- Demonstrated effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to use computer software programs (e.g., e-mail, word processing, spreadsheet, database, and project management).
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative and inclusive work environment.

Pay Range:
$67,000-$75,000
This position is eligible to participate in the annual incentive program. The final salary offered will generally fall within this range and is dependent on various factors including but not limited to the responsibilities of the position, experience, skill set, internal pay equity and other relevant qualifications of the applicant.
