What's the role?

This Assistant Director of Strategic Communications position will play a pivotal role in telling comprehensive stories around the significant and exciting advancements Northwestern Mutual is making in technology. Ranging from artificial intelligence to a wide range of digital products, you will lead a team of people charged with sharing the evolution of the technology landscape at Northwestern Mutual.

Partnering directly with our Technology & Digital function, you will collaborate with teams from across the enterprise to bring awareness to how we’re continually improving the field, client, and employee experiences through technology. Technology is central to everything we do at NM and this role gives you the opportunity to share the strategy behind and progress of numerous digital-driven initiatives.

This position will be based in Milwaukee, WI and requires a strategic and creative professional with 10+ years of agency and/or corporate communications experience who is dedicated to driving positive change through purpose-driven internal communications and engaging storytelling.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Communications strategy: Develop and implement comprehensive communications strategies to reach Northwestern Mutual corporate office employees and Northwestern Mutual financial advisors and representatives.
  • Messaging and enterprise storytelling: Craft compelling narratives that highlight Northwestern Mutual’s commitment to delivering amazing technology experiences, including strategic directions, success stories, digital enhancements, and more. Lead the development of comprehensive messaging libraries tailored for different target audiences.
  • Internal events: Lead promotional communications and develop leader scripts/talking points and other strategic communications needs for large-scale internal events, such as Employee Town Halls, Annual and Regional Meetings, and more.
  • People leader: Manage direct reports to help them navigate their day-to-day responsibilities and deliver high-quality communications.
  • Stakeholder engagement: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including business partners and Strategic Communications, to ensure consistent messaging and alignment around various technology initiatives.
  • Measurement and reporting: Measure and evaluate the impact and effectiveness of communications initiatives, providing regular reports and updates to leadership and stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in strategic communications in agency and/or corporate communications setting, preferably with a focus on employee communications, field/sales team outreach and technology.
  • Demonstrated expertise in developing and executing comprehensive internal communications strategies aligned with organizational goals.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, including exceptional writing and storytelling abilities.
  • Proven experience in engaging and influencing stakeholders at various levels and across diverse audiences.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Proficiency in managing multiple priorities and delivering high-quality results within deadlines.

Compensation Range:

Pay Range - Start:

$90,930.00

Pay Range - End:

$168,870.00

Northwestern Mutual pays on a geographic-specific salary structure and placement in the salary range for this position will be determined by a number of factors including the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; the scope, complexity as well as the cost of labor in the market; and other conditions of employment. At Northwestern Mutual, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
