Compensation

Compensation includes a base salary of $55,600.00 - $83,400.00. The base salary may vary within the anticipated base pay range based on factors such as the ultimate location of the position and the selected candidate’s knowledge, skills, and abilities. Position may be eligible for additional compensation that may include an incentive program.

Job Description

The Waste & Circularity Engineer I supports Cox’s enterprise‑wide waste minimization, recycling, and circularity initiatives. This role plays a key part in implementing strategies that reduce environmental impacts and advance Cox Conserves goals, including Zero Waste to Landfill (ZWTL) and Circularity. The Engineer I assists in project management, program execution, waste analysis, stakeholder engagement, data reporting, and continuous improvement across Cox divisions. The position supports evaluation of waste streams, circular economy solutions, and operational practices to ensure adherence, efficiency, resource recovery, and alignment with Cox’s sustainability commitments.

Core Responsibilities:

Program Implementation & Support

· Assist in implementing Cox Conserves’ waste, recycling, and circularity initiatives across business units.

· Support development and rollout of waste minimization strategies and Zero Waste to Landfill practices.

· Deploy and update resources such as playbooks, toolkits, and other documentation to maintain alignment with industry standards.

Data, Reporting & Analysis

· Assist with data collection, aggregation, and reporting for divisional and corporate stakeholders.

· Conduct analyses on waste streams, recycling performance, and financial impacts of waste initiatives.

· Support zero‑waste data assurance processes, waste audits, and documentation requirements.

Operational & Technical Support

· Investigate waste and recycling issues from employees and provide problem‑solving support.

· Research and evaluate waste and recycling technologies, innovations, and circularity solutions.

· Support site visits, trainings, and compliance reviews related to Zero Waste and Circularity efforts.

· Map project timelines and milestones to ensure on‑time delivery of initiatives.

Stakeholder Engagement

· Collaborate with internal teams to drive alignment of waste and circularity initiatives.

· Support employee engagement strategies to increase sustainability awareness.

· Maintain relationships with external service providers, vendors, and waste partners to optimize services.

Qualifications

Required

· BS/BA in a related discipline (Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, Environmental Policy, Sustainability Management, or related field). The right candidate could also have a different combination, such as 4 years' experience in a related field and no degree.

· Experience collecting and analyzing environmental or operational data, with ability to develop and interpret metrics.

· Strong proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Teams, and project management tools.

· Strong problem‑solving, analytical, and organizational skills with ability to prioritize multiple projects.

· Ability to work cross‑functionally and collaboratively in a fast‑paced environment.

· Strong verbal and written communication skills.

· Operational understanding of Zero Waste to Landfill and Circular Economy principles.

Preferred

· 1+ years of experience in sustainability, recycling, waste management, or circularity projects.

· Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt

· FitWel Ambassador designation strongly preferred

· CSRD Certification

· Knowledge of sustainability reporting frameworks (e.g., GRI).

· Familiarity with TRUE, SWANA, or similar certifications.

· Experience with process improvement, root cause analysis, or Lean Six Sigma.

· Experience evaluating waste technologies, financial modeling, or impact analysis.

Other Job Requirements & Working Conditions

· Travel up to 40% may be required for site visits, training, and operational reviews.
