Job Description:

Analog Devices, Inc. is seeking a highly experienced MEMS INS/GNSS Navigation System Architect to join our Inertial MEMS/Aerospace and Defense business unit. In this critical role, you will lead the architecture, design, and integration of tightly coupled navigation systems, incorporating MEMS IMUs, INS, and GNSS receivers for aerospace, defense, and industrial applications. Your expertise in navigation algorithms, sensor fusion, and embedded systems will be essential in driving the development of next-generation navigation solutions. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in the navigation industry, particularly with navigation algorithm development with ARM Cortex series microcontrollers, debugging tools, and testing frameworks for embedded systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Define system architecture and technical specifications for MEMS-based navigation modules, including communication interfaces and documentation.
  • Lead the design and integration of tightly coupled navigation systems, combining MEMS IMUs, INS, and GNSS receivers to meet performance, reliability, and SWAP-C (Size, Weight, Power, and Cost) optimization goals.
  • Architect and implement advanced sensor fusion algorithms to improve navigation accuracy and robustness in challenging environments.
  • Collaborate with firmware and software engineers to integrate tightly coupled algorithms into embedded firmware and verify system performance.
  • Work closely with hardware engineers to select and integrate MEMS IMU sensors and GNSS receivers, ensuring the optimal balance of performance and SWAP-C.
  • Develop and integrate drivers and modules for embedded systems based on ARM Cortex series microcontrollers.
  • Utilize debugging tools (e.g., JTAG, GDB) to diagnose, troubleshoot, and optimize embedded navigation systems.
  • Perform hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing, simulation, and validation of embedded navigation systems in real-world environments.
  • Implement automated testing frameworks to ensure the performance and reliability of integrated modules.
  • Stay up-to-date with advancements in MEMS IMU, INS, GNSS, and sensor fusion technologies and apply them to continuous system improvements.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to fellow engineers, guiding system integration and embedded development efforts.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
  • 15+ years of experience in the navigation industry, with an emphasis on MEMS IMU, INS, and GNSS integration for defense and industrial applications.
  • Proven expertise in tightly coupled GNSS/INS systems, including sensor fusion algorithms, Kalman filtering, extended Kalman filters (EKF), and error state models.
  • Extensive experience with ARM Cortex series microcontrollers, including low-level programming and real-time embedded systems.
  • Proficiency in debugging tools such as JTAG, GDB, or other debuggers for embedded systems.
  • Experience with testing frameworks for embedded systems, including automated testing and validation of drivers and modules.
  • Proficiency in embedded programming languages such as C/C++, assembly, and experience with RTOS and real-time firmware development.
  • Familiarity with communication protocols (I2C, SPI, UART, CAN) for sensor and GNSS integration.
  • Strong analytical skills with experience in simulation and system-level performance analysis.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and the capacity to work in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience leading navigation system development in inertial navigation companies, specifically for INS/GNSS systems.
  • Expertise in developing safety-critical or real-time navigation systems in aerospace, defense, or related industries.
  • In-depth knowledge of MEMS IMU sensor integration, including calibration, noise reduction, and error compensation techniques.
  • Familiarity with advanced GNSS technologies such as RTK (Real-Time Kinematic) or PPP (Precise Point Positioning) and their integration with INS.
  • Experience with FPGA development for high-performance signal processing.
  • Proficiency in hardware design tools like Altium Designer or OrCAD, and simulation tools such as MATLAB/Simulink.
