About This Opportunity
To provide support to Engineering for the rebranding of drawings and engineering documents in ensuring parts and components are in compliance to global environmental requirements (such as: RoHS, REACH) and ensure that compliance and performance requirements are clearly communicated on Company documents and specifications.
Key Accountabilities
In this position, the candidate will be exposed to the processes utilized when developing products in an engineering environment. The work in this role will provide the individual a better understanding of: mechanical components, electrical/electronic components, materials, and environmental requirements associated with Product HSE (Health, Safety, Environment). The activities will provide improved clarity to internal and external stakeholders to ensure compliance of product to environmental requirements.
Work with stakeholders (Industrialization, Hardware Design, Procurement, Suppliers, and Subcontractors) to standardize requirements relating to environmental and performance compliance
Update mechanical drawings/specifications and approved parts lists (AMPL) to clearly communicate technical, performance, and compliance requirements
Streamline information transfer to contract manufacturers
Engage suppliers to understand material compliance and collect appropriate compliance documentation
Maintain list of approved & disqualified surface treatments for Company designed mechanical parts
Work with the Product HSE/ECO Design Manager to analyze materials against environmental requirements and determine product compliance to environmental requirements
Generate reports to show Product compliance and areas of non-compliance to the environmental requirements
Support environmental lifecycle analysis
Document processes and mentor incoming interns
Other activities related to Product HSE as required
Key Requirements
The successful candidate should be working towards an Engineering degree (Mechanical, Electrical, Electronic, Material Science, Mechatronic, Engineering Science, or Engineering Physics).
Completion of the third year of an undergraduate program.
Possess good written and oral communication skills, and familiarity with project work environment.
Knowledge of mechanical component specifications/drawings
Knowledge of electrical/electronic component key characteristics (Transistor, Resistor, Capacitor, Zener Diode, Rectifier Diode, Digital Logic, LED, etc.)
Work with CAD software such as: AutoCad, SolidWorks, SolidEdge, MicroStation, etc.
Awareness of Product HSE requirements such as: RoHS, REACH
Familiarity with surface treatment performance standards such as: MIL, ASTM, etc.
Ability to work independently, multi-task, and collaborate with other functional areas
Ability to conceptually grasp the “big picture” and apply critical thinking to resolve issues
Attention to detail and curiosity to understand the criticality of activities
Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Powerpoint and Word
Self-starter
The ability to work 40 hours per week for the full duration of the internship is required. During the first month, the intern is expected to be onsite five days a week. From the second month onward, a minimum of three onsite days per week is required, depending on team needs.
Preferred Qualifications
Co-op student available for a 16-month term, with at least one additional quarter or semester of coursework remaining after the completion of the internship.
Previous co-op/internship experience is a plus.
