The Deputy Director of Consumer Protection and Business Licensing for the City of Baltimore is a visible and key member of the Leadership Team. The Deputy Director provides oversight and implementation of all strategies, systems, and policies for the department. This role provides support to the Director of Consumer Protection and Business Licensing. This position will directly supervise professional and technical support workers.
Employees in this class work a conventional work week, subject to evening or weekend hours as required. Work is performed in an office where there are few uncomfortable or hazardous working conditions.
Work requires minimal physical exertion.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
A Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in Public Administration, Business Administration, Law, Consumer Affairs, Public Policy, Regulatory Affairs, Information Systems, or a related field, and six (5) years of progressively responsible management experience in regulatory operations, consumer protection, licensing administration, enforcement, and customer service or related fields.
OR
A Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree, strong legal or regulatory compliance background, or experience supporting administrative enforcement and regulatory review processes is highly desirable, and at least three (3) years of experience supervising professional or managerial staff is preferred. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered
LICENCES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATES
A valid Maryland Class C Noncommercial driver’s license, or an equivalent out-of-state driver’s license acceptable to the Office of Risk Management is required and eligibility to obtain a Baltimore City driver’s permit.
This position is required to complete an Affidavit for Political Appointees and Public Officials as part of the City’s Residency Requirement. You will also be required to complete a Financial Disclosure pursuant to Sections 7-7, 7-8, and 7-9 of the City Ethics Law.
BACKGROUND CHECK
Eligible candidates under final consideration for appointment to positions identified as positions of trust will be required to complete authorization for a Criminal Background Check and/or Fingerprint screening and must be successfully completed.
All persons, including current City employees, selected for this position must complete a 6-MONTH mandatory probation.
