The opportunity:

Provide essential support to the Head of DS&BD and Managing Director by organizing meetings, managing key data, and maintaining important files. Assist in developing strong internal and external relationships. Begin building contacts within our Major Trading Partners (brokers) to foster strong working relationships across all divisions. Contribute to Markel International’s strategy to enhance our profile with each broker.

What you’ll be doing:

The Executive will be responsible for helping the Head of DS&BD and Managing Director of DS&BD to develop key relationships in order to identify potential opportunities for MINT.  This in turn informs MINT’s growth strategy and as directed will plan and execute delegated strategic initiatives.  The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with senior executives across the whole of the business both internally and externally.

  • Build strong communication channels with internal and external stakeholders
  • External: Broker Carrier Management / Brokers
    • Facilitate broker/underwriter strategy meetings
    • Identify opportunities with brokers based on understanding of broker portfolio / Markel appetite and strategy
    • Ensure brokers are kept updated with developments at Markel e.g. products, people, strategy, initiatives
    • Act as a central contact point for enquiries
    • Review meeting agendas/minutes
  • Internal: Manage internal stakeholder relationships
    • Maintain close working relationship with key stakeholders
    • Stay updated on key developments across Markel and Underwriting teams
    • Share insights from brokers
    • Maintain good understanding on Markel International, Wholesale, products, people, projects
  • Market Product Source
  • Biannual Senior Governance Meetings
  • Regulatory reports
  • Various project work

Our must-haves:

  • Strong Account Management experience – with demonstrable skills in relationship development
  • Comparable Financial Services experience, ideally insurance
  • A solid working knowledge/understanding of the insurance market and latest developments
  • Competent IT skills
  • Competent note taking ability
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills
  • Ability to interpret and direct strategy and apply to target brokers
  • Ability to lead discussions
