Parkinson’s Elevated is designed to transform Parkinson’s care through a proactive, value-based model focused on optimizing healthspan rather than reacting to disease progression. Parkinson’s disease affects every organ system in the body, is often difficult to diagnose, and requires coordination across specialties. Despite extensive research, no cure exists, and high-intensity aerobic exercise—currently the intervention with the strongest evidence for disease modification—is not routinely prescribed.  Parkinson’s Elevated addresses these challenges by pairing a movement disorders neurologist with a primary care provider who assume comprehensive responsibility for all aspects of a patient’s care. Care is delivered by this integrated team in a single physical location-but follows the patient wherever they are (eg: home, vacation, hospital, emergency room, rehabilitation facility) via telemedicine. When additional expertise is required, patients are referred to specialists with experience in Parkinson’s disease. The program emphasizes 24/7 access to a care team that knows their patients and incorporates exercise as medicine, prescribed with the same rigor as pharmacologic or surgical therapy.  Dr. Kathleen McKee and geriatric primary care provider Cynthia Papadopolous, PA are piloting this model for Select Health members. Based at Cottonwood Medical Clinic, they care for patients across the Intermountain West, with telemedicine expanding access for individuals in rural communities throughout the Intermountain West.

The Parkinson's Elevated Medical assistant will join a team that is uniquely laser focused on comprehensive, integrated, and patient-centered care.   Successful candidates will demonstrate strong work ethic, ability to think critically and problem solve, and intrinsic motivation to do the right thing for people with parkinsonism.  The Parkinson's Elevated Medical Assistant will have accountability for providing care to patients in an ambulatory clinic setting. This will involve caring for patients with acute and chronic needs. The Parkinson's Elevated Medical Assistant will be responsible for communicating clearly with patients seeking care through different modalities including telephone and in-person interactions.

The Parkinson's Elevated Medical Assistant will be in clinic five days a week and responsible for rooming patients when the providers are seeing patients (currently two days / week).  Between rooming patients and on the other three days when there are no patients to room, the Medical Assistant will serve as first point of contact for all patients via telephone and mychart during business hours.   Successful candidates will demonstrate a desire to assume ownership of the role through ensuring all messages and calls are addressed in the same day and in clearly communicating with the team during absences.

Of note -  Dr. McKee will be taking 24/7 call after business hours.  The unique feature of this new care model is quick and seamless access to a team of care providers who know the patient - and the medical assistant will often be the first point of contact.  This is a unique medical assistant role in which The Parkinson's Elevated Medical Assistant will be able to develop relationships with the panel of Dr. McKee and Cynthia Papadopolous.  Additionally the medical assistant will take a leading role in care and process design for this unique care model.  There will be opportunities to innovate with a creative team.
