As an Oncology Nurse Educator supporting assigned portfolio in the NORTHWEST territory (WA, OR, ID, MT WY), you will play a pivotal role in channeling our scientific capabilities to make a positive impact on changing patients' lives through the provision of nurse education. 

AstraZeneca’s vision in Oncology is to help patients by redefining the cancer-treatment paradigm, with the aim of bringing a broad pipeline of next-generation medicines focused principally on six tumor areas - breast, ovarian, lung, gynecology, genitourinary, gastrointestinal, and hematological cancers. As well as other tumor types, these are being targeted through five key platforms - immunotherapy, the genetic drivers of cancer and resistance, DNA damage repair, and antibody drug conjugates underpinned by personalized healthcare and biomarker technologies. 

Reporting to the WEST Nurse Educator Director, the Oncology Nurse Educator will implement Nurse Education strategies and provide education to community and academic institutions, hospitals, health care providers and pharmacies by utilizing their professional expertise and clinical training. 

Responsibilities:

Clinical Education: 

  • Apply Oncology Nurse Educator role-specific clinical knowledge in discussion of product and disease state content, terminology, and concepts with customers 

  • Educates nurses and other health care providers on adverse event (AE) profiles and appropriate patient management to support the safe and effective use of AZ products, in a non-promotional discussion utilizing content consistent with labelling 

  • Answer customer-specific questions regarding AEs associated with an AZ oncology medicine 

  • Speak at oncology nursing education events to educate a broad cross-section of nurses in an above-brand environment 

  • Apply approved educational materials to effectively address account needs while ensuring alignment with nurse education strategic imperatives and adherence to all compliance requirements 

  • A role model for the AZ values who diligently and consistently upholds our ethical standards and compliance expectations 

Customer Knowledge & Insights: 

  • Demonstrates deep insight into customer and associated institutional needs 

  • Demonstrates an understanding of the various customer segments (e.g. different nursing specialties) and environments (e.g. Community Oncology, Academic Institutions) 

Customer Focus & Engagement: 

  • Builds credibility and trust during customer interactions by understanding their operational practices, decision- making processes, standards of care, priorities, and potential changes in needs 

  • Considers the patient journey and account educational needs and utilizes approved AZ resources to address these needs 

Account Planning & Execution: 

  • Develops meaningful nurse education account plans with clear objectives, actions, responsibilities, timelines, and allocation of resources 

  • Demonstrates written and oral communication skills that supports cross functional collaboration and coordination of customers’ needs  

  • Develops and accomplishes a routing plan to improve time and impact in the field   

Teamwork & Collaboration:

  • Contributes to and engages with cross-functional team in a highly integrated way 

  • Demonstrates commitment to the key account management process by sharing perspectives, links customer insights and recommends strategies to integrate perspectives across nurse education solutions 

  • A role model for living the AZ values who diligently and consistently upholds our ethical standards and compliance expectations.

Essential  Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree 
  • 4+ years Oncology nursing experience 
  • Active RN license in territory 
  • 80% Travel 
  • Must reside within the assigned geography; residence within one hour of a major airport is strongly preferred 

Desireable:

  • Experience as Clinical Nurse Educator or clinical professional in pharmaceutical industry
  • Master’s degree in nursing or a related healthcare field  

    Oncology nursing certification from a recognized professional nursing organization (e.g., OCN® or equivalent) preferred. 

     

Skills and Experience:

  • Adverse events & patient management expertise
  • Effective educational presenter and discussion facilitator of Registered Nurses, Pharmacy Staff and Advanced Practitioners on all aspects of disease state and product information as it relates to patient care strategies and adverse event management.
  • Strong commitment to ethical business conduct
  • Embraces and sustains a patient-centric approach that caters to customers’ educational needs in connection with patient and adverse event management strategies.
  • Applies knowledge and understanding of customer educational needs and priorities.
  • Engages customers by aligning approach based on customer interests and AZ strategy and goals.
  • Develops collaborative relationships within AZ to work toward a common goal and solve complex patient journey challenges.
  • Ability to work independently with discretion and judgment without regular direct supervision
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent computer skills i.e. Microsoft office, Excel, Power point

The annual base pay for this position ranges from $151,081-$ 226,622. Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition, our positions offer a short-term incentive bonus opportunity; eligibility to participate in our equity-based long-term incentive program (salaried roles), to receive a retirement contribution (hourly roles), and commission payment eligibility (sales roles).
