Job Description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Acts as an internal consultant to assigned business units and business leaders by establishing credibility with leaders as a valuable sounding board for business and people issues. Maintains a thorough understanding of the business and its critical success factors. Proactively recommends strategic and tactical plans to support the business and its current and future business objectives;

  • Builds and maintains effective working relationships with leaders and employees to provide guidance and counsel on a variety of HR and business-related issues on both strategic and tactical levels;

  • Works with leaders to develop and implement staffing plans for the assigned Business Unit

  • Represents management in grievance meetings with union representatives and advises on corrective actions;

  • Supports negotiations between management and union representatives and help build and maintain positive labor-management relationships;

  • Manage assigned job requisitions through full recruitment lifecycle and according to CBA requirements;

  • Manages and resolves complex employee relations issues, resolution and investigations, performance management and talent/succession planning;

  • Applies a solution-oriented approach when working with and advising management on employee relations issues. Ensures management works within applicable state and federal employment laws. Provides coaching to management and employees to effectively resolve issues.  Ensures day-to-day employee management is compliant with all regulations and according to the CBA;

  • Provides day-to-day performance management guidance to business leaders (coaching, counseling, career development, disciplinary actions);

  • Interprets and communicates corporate policies and procedures and federal and state legal requirements. Assists in the development and interpretation of corporate policies, procedures and CBA. Works with other HR Business Partners to ensure consistency of policies across business units;

  • Maintains current knowledge of changing employment laws and best practices related to day-to-day management of employees, reducing legal risks and ensuring regulatory compliance. Partners with legal department as needed/required;

  • Identifies trends, patterns, issues, and opportunities to intervene with strategic plans to mitigate or enhance the business impact to support a high performance results driven organization;

  • Communicates organization and business initiatives in a positive, supportive manner;

  • Conducts and facilitates meetings with respective business units as needed;

  • Analyzes trends and metrics in partnership with HR group to develop solutions, programs and policies;

  • Works closely with management and employees to improve work relationships, build morale, increase productivity and retention;

  • Provides guidance and input on business unit restructures, workforce planning, and succession planning;

  • Other duties as assigned.

Client Responsibilities

This is an internal and external client facing position that requires excellent customer service skills and interpersonal communication skills (listening/verbal/written).  One must be able to; manage difficult or emotional client situations; Respond promptly to client needs; Solicit client feedback to improve service; Respond to requests for service and assistance from clients; Meet commitments to clients.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

BS/BA and 5+ years’ experience or equivalent combination of education and experience, and 2 years' of SME in respective areas.  At least 5 years experience working and supporting a union represented environment required. 

Computer Skills

Solid working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite applications, Workday or equivalent HRIS System, and equivalent learning management system.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

PHR/SPHR professional certification preferred. 

Other Skills and Abilities

  • Expertise in labor relations, grievance procedures, and union engagement required.
  • Strong working knowledge of multiple human resource areas including compensation practices, labor relations, performance management, leave administration, employee retention, federal and state employment laws; workforce planning, recruitment, benefits, employee relations, performance management, and training

Work Location

This position must work on-site at the Freemont, Nebraska work site for purposes of providing adequate support to internal clients; being available for face-to-face interactions and coordination of work with other employees, colleagues, clients, or vendors; as well as for facilitation of quick and effective decisions through collaboration with stakeholders.  Remote work is not an option for these purposes.

Working Hours

This is an exempt level position requiring the incumbent to work the hours required to fully accomplish job responsibilities and reasonable meet deadlines for work deliverables. The individual must have the flexibility to work beyond traditional hours and be able to work nights, weekends or on holidays as required.  Work hours may be changed from time to time to meet the needs of the business.  Typical core business hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 5:00pm.

Travel

This position may require domestic travel. May need to be onsite one or more times a week as required/directed by leader.
