Job Description Summary:

Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences is seeking a Sports Psychologist to join a rapidly expanding, 18-member Psychology Division. The chosen individual will work with our sports medicine specialists as an integrated member of our Sports Medicine and Performance Center team.

Job Duties Outlined:

  • Provide assessment, psychotherapy, counseling and support for athletes 14 and older with sport-related psychological issues. This position will not be managing chronic mental and behavioral health concerns.

  • Provide individual and group psychotherapy to patients and their families.

  • Educate psychology interns and postdoctoral fellows in areas of psychologist’s expertise

  • Maintain a productive clinical practice in the ambulatory sports medicine center and work collaboratively with sports medicine personnel.

  • Participate in department activities, faculty meetings, committees and Grand Rounds.

Required Qualifications:

Education:

  • Doctorate degree in psychology from an APA or CPA accredited clinical program.

This position requires a formal degree in the cited discipline area(s) to ensure that candidates have the foundational knowledge and skill set required to perform the duties of the position.  The level of degree is based on accreditation requirements, institutional standards of academic and professional excellence, alignment with peer institution benchmarks, and contributes to the credibility and effectiveness of the role within the university community.

Certification/Licensure:

  • Licensed or eligible to be licensed to practice as an independent psychologist (LP) in Kansas.

Work Experience:

  • Two years' supervised experience (including internship/postdoctoral fellowship).

Preferred Qualifications:

Work Experience:

  • Experience in diagnostic assessment, treatment and performance enhancement for patients with sports-related and psychological concerns.

  • Experience in leading psycho-educational treatment groups and working collaboratively with other medical professionals and social service agencies.
