About you and this role:

Dow has an exciting opportunity for Associate Operators located in Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta, Canada.

This role includes a special training component that requires travel and flexibility of successful candidates. Successful candidates will be immediately placed in a training pool working towards certification of a production facility to be built between now and 2027.  Successful applicants will be able to develop and grow to a fully qualified Operator similar to any other Dow facility that already exists on site.

At Fort Saskatchewan, Dow Canada operates four world-scale production units that manufacture hydrocarbons, ethylene, polyethylene, and electricity. As one of Canada’s largest petrochemical facilities, Dow Canada is able to serve Dow’s global customers.

The role of the Associate Operator includes operating equipment and process related control systems in a safe environmentally responsible manner. The role involves optimizing plant performance by monitoring process equipment and conditions, conducting field checks, adjusting control systems manually and operated equipment based on process controls in a safe and efficient manner.

You will be a team player, have good prioritization and organizational skills, and demonstrate competencies in the areas of: leadership, initiative, teamwork, and interpersonal effectiveness. 

Responsibilities:

  • Monitor, troubleshoot and optimize plant operation.
  • Work within a team environment.
  • Work a 12 hour rotating shifts upon plant commissioning startup (estimated for late 2026).
  • Training period of approximately 3 years will be dayshift.
  • For the first year, the technical training time will include travel approximately 2 days (1 night) per week to the Prentiss, AB facility and approximately 2 weeks per year to the St. Charles Louisiana, USA facility.   
  • Be self-motivated.
  • Perform duties in a safe, environmentally responsible manner.
  • Follow Operating Discipline policies, principles, procedures, standards, and practices to ensure safe and reliable operation of assigned plant areas.

Preferred Skills:

  • Related two-year technical diploma, such as Chemical Engineering Technology. 
  • 1 or more years related (Operations, Instrumentation, Mechanical, Electrical) work experience.
  • Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.


The physical abilities, with or without reasonable accommodations, include:

  • Medically approved to respond to emergencies.
  • Physically & mentally able to work in stressful environments including, but not limited to: confined spaces, low visibility, fully encapsulated PPE, and extreme close proximity to others.
  • Physically & mentally able to work at varying heights in an emergency capacity.
  • Frequent/Occasional lifting of material weighing approximately 50lbs.
  • Must have or be willing to earn EMT-Basic and HazMat Technician certifications.
  • Wear all required personal protective equipment, including but not limited to respirator, SCBA, safety harness.

Required Qualifications:

  • A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Progress towards ABSA 4th class (or higher).
  • Must be 18 years old or older.
  • Must have a current and valid Canadian Driver's license.
  • Able to work a 12-hour rotating shift.
  • Must be willing and able to meet all applicable requirements related to business travel (e.g., as to immigration and visa rules, public-health mandates, airline rules, etc.) into and out of (and physical presence in) various countries worldwide.
  • A minimum requirement for this Canada based position is the ability to work legally in Canada. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position.

  • This role includes a special training component that requires travel and flexibility of successful candidates.   • We do not offer relocation assistance for Dow jobs like this position. This includes reimbursement for travel expenses incurred to and from test sessions/interviews.
