At Yugabyte, we have an ambitious vision: to build a high-performance distributed SQL database.  We are well underway on this journey with YugabyteDB, an open-source database that users can interact with through well-known APIs.

We are looking for a Senior Solutions Architect to help customers migrate from any database to YugabyteDB. This role requires a strong mix of database architecture, development, and application expertise to migrate and optimise customer databases.

The ideal candidate will have a skill set similar to that of an expert performance DBA: deep expertise in physical and logical data modelling, the ability to read and write highly performant SQL, and a thorough understanding of database execution plans and database internals.

Responsibilities

• Implement improved physical and logical data models in customer schemas to enhance performance and reduce storage usage.
• Read, create, and modify customer SQL to improve performance
• Enable customers to improve their own data modelling and SQL performance, while implementing best practices for them initially
• Debug application and database issues, whether performance-related or not
• Analyze and debug execution plans, database logs, and infrastructure logs
• Enable customers to debug issues independently
• Understand and build YugabyteDB topologies, implement the optimal topology for each customer, and educate customers on their topology choices.
• Plan and execute hands-on, large-scale, critical heterogeneous database migrations to Yugabyte 
• Advise customers on performance improvements in their application architecture.
• Perform all of the above activities in both post-sales and pre-sales engagements with prospects and customers
• Act as a technical lead during customer incidents and serve as a customer advocate for product features, both internally and externally.

Requirements

• B.A. / B.S. degree or equivalent practical experience
• 10+ years of hands-on database administration or database engineering experience
• Expert-level skills in data modelling and SQL performance tuning
• Great Linux and cloud skills 
• Working knowledge of, and ability to code in, modern programming languages
• Proficiency with Generative AI technologies
• Strong documentation skills and excellent presentation and communication skills
