Job Summary:

In this role the Director of Global-Level Data, leads a team of data architects who uses, develops, and maintains descriptive representations (strategy, principles, design patterns, model, and language specifications) critical for effective data management in and among systems to enable the enterprise’s business.

The Director drives the relationships with the data science, insights teams and the various business consumers ensuring the data management in the enterprise necessitates a focus on data integration and related key aspects, such as data standardization, data sharing and data movement. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

Understand and teach enterprise data and its relationship to business processes. 

Drive the Development and implementation of strategies for creating and maintaining standardized domain taxonomies and ontologies across the enterprise. 

Partnering with peers drives the data management responsibilities (RACI) for the business functions. 

Teach/Mentor the existing system landscape, systems’ functional and data management responsibilities. 

Drive the strategy and design of systems (functional and data management responsibilities) as an integrated part of the in the enterprise architecture. 

Review and communicate enterprise-level data-related descriptive representations. 

Provide executive thought leadership for systems’ architecture reviews, design and implementation activities. 

Drive the strategy and develop for data management standards, policies, and guidelines.

Provide the thought leadership along with driving the design of the data architecture from the business and system requirements, including: 

  • Data models/schemas (class/property and business rules) 

  • Knowledge representations (ontologies) 

  • Data capture, storage, movement, and manipulation approaches and techniques 

  • Data currency, accuracy and precision, retention, security approaches and techniques 

Partner with Peer Directors driving the standards for the business requirements and architecture. 

Drive the change for and development of the transformation framework for data architecture / business expertise to other associates (i.e., Business Analysts, System Architects, Database Administrators) during system development; ensure systems’ data architecture is compatible with existing and future enterprise data architecture. 

Drive the direct reports the design, implementation, and maintenance of data models/schemas and knowledge representations for system data stores and inter-system communication. 

Thought leadership working with peer directirs for the data model/schema and knowledge representation designs against the business and system requirements. 

Coach the process for stakeholder reviews on all data architecture deliverables 

Through collaboration methods, mediate between project stakeholders. 

Teach and mentor the Tech Leads and Sr Engineers, reverse engineering techniques to understand and document existing data stores. 

Enforce governance and quality in the definition, production and usage of data assets. 

As part of the leadership council representing Sysco data assets, drive the development of overall project plans and timetables, analysis and identification of intermediate deliverables. 

Communicate in business vernacular (KPIs) (EPS Impact) the value of data management to the organization.

Ensures the data teams provide the required reports upon technical reviews and audits at the enterprise and individual system levels. 

Thought leadership and mentoring the business and data team members on data architecture design practices. 

Working cross functionally, develops and delivers the near/long term data architecture roadmap, mapping capabilities to business value

Education Required:

Bachelor’s Degree in Analytical or related field (e.g. Engineering, Mathematics, Business) or relevant degree with proven Sysco experience.

Education Preferred:

Advanced degree from a top tier educational institution

Experience Required:

Proven experience (typically 10+ years) in a Data Platform Architecture, or related role, or equivalent experience with current and past roles within Sysco with a track record of leadership and achievement.

Experience Preferred:

Proven ability to lead high performing teams (typically 10+ years) in Data Analytics (predictive and prescriptive) design and execution, within Sysco with a track record of success and achievement.

Licenses/Certification Required:

AWS Solutions Architect

Licenses/Certification Preferred:

AWS Big Data Specialty

Technical Skills and Abilities:

  • Fluent with developing trends in data management technologies, while maintaining data privacy and security across all business stakeholders. 

  • Proven track record of leading and developing high performing teams

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; fluency interfacing with both technical and business leadership teams

  • Strong executive presence, ability to influence others, and drive cross-functional alignment

  • Superb story telling ability to simplify complex topics and articulate clear solutions

  • Experience shaping enterprise strategies and working with senior leadership and peers to drive alignment

  • Possesses business and technical leadership fluency, gravitas to influence direction, and the ability to work collaboratively across the organization

  • Excellent problem-solving skills to take an ambiguous problem and develop a structured and logical solution framework

  • Proven ability to manage ambiguity and guide the organization and team through it towards clear and decisive action plans

  • Experience with developing and implementing data strategies to address key business challenges working with business and technology leaders
