Polysomnographic Tech I - Children's Hospital

Job Summary:

To develop competency in and perform polysomnographic testing and associated interventions. To perform all types of sleep studies under the guidance of a senior tech. To develop skills in scoring studies during recording. To clean and assemble equipment used for studies.

Education & Experience

High School Diploma/GED and 6 months of direct patient care experience or current enrollment or completion in an accredited educational program in Polysomnography.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Responsibilities

  • Performs a variety of polysomnographic exams on sleeping patient to detect common sleep disorders.
  • Follows procedural protocols to ensure collection of appropriate data; documents procedures and data recorded from exams in order to facilitate scoring and interpretation  of polysomnographic result.
  • Verifies medical order and protocol; completes and verifies documentation; explains testing procedures and orients the patient to the sleep center.
  • Prepares and calibrates equipment used for testing to determine proper functioning and makes adjustments as necessary.
  • Follows specified procedures to verify integrity of collected data and instructs patients on completing questionnaires.
  • Performs equipment care and maintenance; complies with applicable laws, regulations, guidelines and standards regarding patient safety and infection control issues.
  • Performs a variety of sleep studies under the supervision and guidance of a senior tech and scores studies as they record.
  • Continues to learn and gain experience in order to work toward obtaining certification and/or registry.
