Job Description:
Outpatient Infusion Medical Assistant
Functions as a member of the clinic patient care team performing clinical tasks and procedures to support the delivery of care. Provides administrative support to Outpatient Infusion.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provides support for Outpatient Infusion clinic staff
- Prepares patients for the infusion visit by accompanying them to the infusion chair
- Verifies patient information by interviewing the patient; reviews and/or records medical history and current medications, takes accurate patient weight, vital signs (including manual blood pressure when needed), and confirms the purpose of the visit or treatment
- Supports patient care delivery by helping nurses during visits
- Answers telephone, schedules patient appointments
- Collects specimens from patients of all ranges of age (including peripheral blood draws) and uses correct tubes and handling for appropriate testing and labels specimens accurately upon completion of competency
- Removes IV catheters
- Orders supplies as necessary
- Ensures assigned areas are adequately stocked, cleaned, and organized
- Keeps equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshoots breakdowns, maintains supplies, performs preventative maintenance, and calls for repairs, if necessary
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Demonstrates the ability to use a personal computer and various software programs applicable to the position
- Demonstrates the ability to operate applicable office equipment
- Exhibits the ability to deal effectively interdepartmentally & with the public
- Exhibits the ability to maintain confidentiality, think and act independently with minimal supervision
- Medical Terminology
- Maintains regular, consistent and punctual attendance at the assigned job location
- Demonstrates excellent written and oral communication skills
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES/DEGREES
- American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) or must be obtained by the last day of the month after the 60-day grace period
- Certified Medical Assistant or obtain within 12 months of hire
- College level education in secretarial sciences preferred
- Completion of basic medical terminology preferred
- High School diploma or equivalent preferred
EXPERIENCE
- One (1) year recent medical assistant experience preferred
- Recent Outpatient experience preferred
