JOB SUMMARY:

Responsible for the filing and storing of all radiographs, film file jackets, and reports. Assist physicians and residents in locating films. Distribute films to the Radiologists for interpretation.


REPORTS TO:


JOB SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Proficiently use the hospital computer system, including Radiology History, Patient Inquiry,
Patient orders and results, Radiology Film Tracking, and print Initials, Finals and Labels.
• Efficiently locate film file jackets. Locate jackets in all areas including, the shelf, through the
computer inquiry.
• Using the Radiology Film Tracking System of the computer, “check” jackets in/out according to
volume and individual studies as soon as the task is performed.
• Retrieve films and film jackets from the hospital units, emergency center, outpatient clinics, and
the operating and recovery rooms daily and more often as necessary.
• Properly scan films and orders on the Film Digitizer into Medview. Correctly using all functions of
the digitizer. Assist the technical staff in using the digitizer as needed.
• Copy film as needed using the Duplicator in the darkroom, correctly choosing the appropriate
film and the time needed to expose the film in order to maintain the same contrast and density
as the original. Log all copies made and charge the copies to the appropriate cost center or
patient immediately.
• Receive films in the mail, and appropriately file them in the correct jacket. Mail original films back
to the originating location.
• File all jackets that are not being used back into the film file shelves according to their Filing
Number as soon as possible. Properly file using the terminal digit filing system.
• Work-up films that are “to go” according to file room policy. Use the Unread film jackets, check
out by volume or exam, choosing the appropriate location and physician. Deliver these films to
the front desk for the patients.
• File the yellow reports into the appropriate file jacket as soon as possible.
• Release UMC’s films to outside locations using the proper paperwork. Fill out the release forms
and the “mail-out” slips. File in the appropriate location.
• Courteously interact with other staff, physicians and Radiologists, maintaining a professional
manner at all times.
• Assist in the purging of films that is done on an annual basis.
• Keep the file room clean and stocked at all times.
• Courteously and promptly assist physicians and other hospital personnel that request films in
person or over the telephone.
• Deliver orders, labels and jackets to the appropriate areas in the department as they come
across the computer.
• Refer all legal memos or subpoenas to the designated person within the file room as soon as
they are received. Legal films will be pulled from the shelf, labeled as Legal Case and filed in a
separate area.
• Perform any additional tasks as required by the supervisor or administration.
• Call the appropriate person regarding receipt of faxes as soon as the fax is discovered.
• Attend all department staff meeting, and any called file room meetings.
• Adhere to all department policies.
• Work evenings, nights, weekends and holidays as needed.
• May be responsible for specific areas of instruction regarding new staff, ancillary personnel and
South Plains students.
• Maintain CPR certification.
• Create OPTRD visits in the IDX system accordingly updated patient demographic information
using the correct physician, ordering location for all outside ordering clinics.
• Order all procedures in Powerchart according to physician's orders for all outside clinics.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Some computer knowledge is helpful. Must be able to learn terminal digit filing system. Must be able to work without supervision, and use logic and deductive reasoning. Telephone skills and etiquette necessary.

PHYSICAL CAPABILITIES:

Must be emotionally and physically fit. The atmosphere is at times stressful with many emotional demands. Work requires frequent standing, walking, and bending. It also requires frequent reaching, lifting and transporting of patient jackets. Must be able to reach high shelves or bend to lower shelves. Must possess near visual acuity for reading computer screens and printed material.


ENVIRONMENTAL/WORKING CONDITIONS:

This position is subject to inside environmental conditions. The position requires occasionally working in confined spaces. Occupational risk to blood born pathogens is minimal.
