About the Role

This fixed term position is an opportunity for a recently qualified FCICM to consolidate their training and develop skills as an intensive care specialist in a well-supported collegiate environment. In addition to clinical duties and an administrative portfolio, it is anticipated that the appointed Intensivist will participate in undergraduate and post-graduate teaching as well as quality assurance projects. Excellent opportunities also exist for clinical research and involvement in a current or new project is encouraged. Tenure will be limited to 12 months.

The classification for this position will be a HN19 – HN59 (classification dependent on years of experience).

Duties

  • Maintain a clinical load that is of high quality and meets department goals and needs.
  • Assist the Director in the development and implementation of policies and procedures.
  • Assist in undergraduate and postgraduate medical and nursing teaching as required.
  • Participate in continuing medical education and clinical and/or laboratory research.
  • Assist in the supervision, training and counselling of Department staff.
  • Oversee and maintain junior medical staff rosters in conjunction with ICU administrative assistant.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • MBBS or equivalent

  • Fellow of the College of Intensive Care Medicine or equivalent

  • Current AHPRA registration

  • Excellent qualities as a clinician and good communication skills with patients and colleagues.

About the ICU Department

St Vincent’s Intensive Care Unit (SVH ICU) is a 15 bed mixed medical and surgical intensive care with co-located cardiothoracic services that admits 1600 patients per year. Services provided outside the ICU include a medical emergency team, liaison nursing and tracheostomy review service. There are currently 3 full time and 7 part time Intensivists with junior medical staffing provided by Transition Fellows, Senior Registrars, Junior Registrars and Residents.
