Key Responsibilities

  • Partners with the product team to establish the priorities across an entire portfolio of product groups
  • Manages Data, BI and/or AI engineering teams that design, build and maintain solutions across multiple technology products
  • Builds and maintains partnerships with all functions to ensure data and technology team members understand business needs, functional specifications, and user journeys
  • Provides insight and guidance, and resolves cross-functional issues that are escalated throughout the application or infrastructure development, testing, implementation, and support lifecycle
  • Ensures the creation of SOPs, OKRs, and overall operationalization of assigned infrastructure services or applications within a product group
  • Hires, trains, and develops talent for growth opportunities; monitors team/individual’s morale and engagement to maintain highly effective and collaborative environments
  • Ensures mechanisms are in place that allow teams to resolve production issues within defined SLAs
  • Monitors testing activities from a high level, ensuring that all testing efforts align to the team's testing strategy; meets with testing teams when necessary to review the progress of testing efforts
  • Responsible for departmental budget and forecasting decisions, and budget allocation; ensures technical solutions are delivered and maintained in a cost-effective manner
  • Responsible for overseeing teams that develop, implement, maintain, support and scale robust, reliable and secure business and enterprise Data, BI or Platform engineering solutions
  • Partners with cross-functional leaders to ensure technology solutions built by the engineering team align to overall architectural and business standards
  • Ensures the alignment, buy-in, and support of diverse project stakeholders by building and maintaining trusting relationships with internal customers
  • Influences and establishes best in class engineering practices through solid design decisions and tools
  • Sets goals, strategies, budgets and oversees the deployment of large/enterprise scale initiatives and encourages a data-driven culture to improve the efficiency, scalability, stability, and security of applications
  • Manages a portfolio of services or applications and provides resources in support of the applications by leveraging partnerships with technology teams, vendors, and business leaders
  • Leads teams through all technology solution development phases by ensuring teams understand and adhere to company methodology, policies, standards, and controls; ensures team members are trained in SDLC methodologies, models, and processes
  • Provides leadership to the team by attracting and hiring talented individuals, setting goals and communicating clear expectations, providing timely and constructive feedback as well as meaningful developmental opportunities, managing performance, providing resources and support as needed, and sponsoring and leading team members through change
  • Defines and measures how AI, Data, BI and/or Platform engineering helps the company make data driven business decisions
  • Ensures data security laws and compliance are adhered to without any deviation
  • Ensures the alignment, buy-in, and support of diverse project stakeholders by building and maintaining trusting relationships with internal customers, third party vendors, and senior management
  • Partners with directors and executives to establish OKRs and ensure the effectiveness of cross-functional Data, BI or Platform teams is measured and reported
  • Ensures service levels are met and operational stability meets business expectations
  • Drives a culture throughout the department of continuous personal improvement in the Data, BI and Platform engineering space
  • Holds the overall Data, BI and Platform engineering function accountable for delivering solutions that meet and exceed stakeholder expectations for speed, accuracy and overall quality

 

Data and AI Engineering Responsibilities

  • Defines, measures and improves data and AI product road map and charter to represent all business process data in data lake/mesh in partnership with product management and business teams across on-prem and cloud environments
  • Provides direction and vision for reusable domain-oriented data curation processes, data models and AI work processes
  • Matures the data and AI engineering competency by expanding on "Data as a Service" and "Model as a Service" model capabilities.

   
Data Analytics Responsibilities

  • Work with product management, business stakeholders to envision the data analytics need, to build roadmap and create value.
  • Defines, measures and drives technical and delivery excellence of analytical products
  • Drives effective cross-functional partnerships among Analytical teams to ensure data delivery pipelines are built and operates optimally by meeting performance, availability and SLA criteria
  • Platform Engineering Responsibilities
  • Drives Platform strategy and roadmap while maintaining strong partnerships with key vendors and business stakeholders
  • Defines, measures and drives technical and delivery excellence of Platform stability and products
  • Provides direction and vision to reduce reliance on vendor products/support and build deep inhouse expertise on proven open-source technologies

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree in Business Administration, Computer Science, CIS, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent work experience in a related field)
  • Masters Degree in Business Administration, Computer Science, CIS, Engineering, or related field

 

Preferred Experience

  • 10 Years Experience in Data or BI Engineering, Data Warehousing/ETL, or Software Engineering
  • 4 Years  Experience in managing projects, people and stakeholders
  • 5 Years  Experience leading global technology teams with direct reports
  • 2 Years  Experience working closely with senior leadership
  • 3 Years  Experience in managing operational and/or financial budgets, including the managing of 3rd party vendors and/or software providers
  • 6 Years  Expertise in Java/Scala/Python, SQL, Scripting.
  • 6 Years  Experience in Big Data technology - Hadoop, HDFS, Hive, Spark / PySpark, Oozie, Airflow, Druid, Trino, Kafka; Medallion, data mesh architectures; Batch, Lambda & Kappa architectures.
  • 6 Years    Experience in Cloud Big data technologies such as GCP Big query, Cloud storage, GKE, DataProc / Spark, Cloud Composer & VPC, Secret manager, Data flow & Pub/Sub, Cloud SQL, Dataplex & Data catalog.
  • Experience in a leadership role of a large matrixed organization
  • Experience managing the development, implementation, and integration of multiple and/or complex business systems within an organization
  • IT consulting experience
  • Experience in IT Management in the retail industry
  • 4 Years    Experience in software development in an agile environment
  • Experience working with 3rd party vendors and/or software solution providers
  • Experience working in an IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL) framework
  • 2 Years    Experience in OLAP on Hadoop or any Cloud BI components (specific to the BI Engineering role)
  • 7 Years    Experience managing projects, vendors, people and stakeholders (specific to the BI Engineering role)
  • Expertise in MicroStrategy/Power BI/SQL, Scripting, Teradata or equivalent RDBMS, Hadoop (OLAP on Hadoop), BI Architecting, Dashboard development, Mobile development (specific to the BI Engineering role)
  • 5 Years  Experience in Hadoop or any Cloud Bigdata components (specific to the Platform Engineering role)
  • 7 Years  Experience managing projects, vendors, people and stakeholders (specific to the Platform Engineering role)
