The Director, under general direction, provides leadership for TRIO Student Support Services departmental functions to include planning, directing, budgeting and evaluating departmental operations. Provides oversight of business activities, strategic planning and development, and program administration. Functions as departmental liaison to Department of Education, and represents the University on various committees, internally and externally.

In-office position with a 50/50 split of time between Stephenville, Fort Worth, and Waco, campuses in Texas with work hours of Mon-Fri; 8 AM-5 PM or as work requirements indicate which may include afterhours/late hours as needed; work with off-site campus locations with occasional travel to Ft. Worth, Waco, Bryan and on-line.

Serves as a Campus Security Authority (CSA).

Responsibilities:

  • Provides direct oversight and administration of the SSS programs located on the Stephenville, Fort Worth, and Waco campuses.

  • Ensures compliance with federal regulations in delivering program services, meeting program objectives, selecting and serving eligible participants, expending funds according to federal law, administering program evaluation process for internal and federal assessment reports.

  • Supervises and trains full-time Student Support Services staff in federal regulations and best practices for delivering SSS Program services.

  • Provides academic advising and mentoring to a caseload of 40 students. Oversees peer tutoring programs and trains tutors.

  • Implements all administrative SSS functions, administers the commencement stole patch program for graduating students.

  • Serves as co-visionary in scaling, mainstreaming, and organizing first generation support and success on the institutional level.

  • Maintains the Tarleton State University TRIO webpage.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

Required Education and Experience:

  • Master’s degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Five years of related administrative experience that includes evaluating and documenting procedures used by Federal programs, writing grant proposals, and preparing and managing budgets, including related supervisory experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of institutional and state academic policies.

  • Knowledge and understanding of TRIO legislation and regulations.

  • Budget management and reconciliation

  • Goal setting and assessment

  • Financial Aid processes

  • Banner and EAB Navigation

  • Understanding of Americans with Disabilities Act & FERPA

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with students, faculty, staff, and the public

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to work with stakeholders at all levels of an organization, manage multiple projects and priorities with deadlines, and respond quickly to changing situations

Preferred :

  • Ten years of fiscally responsible leadership in serving low income, first-generation, postsecondary academic advising, or other related role.

  • Administrative experience with personnel management, program design, and planning and evaluation processes

  • Experience designing, managing, and implementing SSS or similar projects

  • Experience with the creation, evaluation, and documentation process required of federal grants

  • Succeeded in overcoming barriers similar to those encountered by low-income, first generation, and/or individuals with disabilities

Compensation & Benefits

Salary: Commensurate with experience

Salary Range: The target base annual salary range is $57,559.20 up to $70,000 and may be negotiable based on funding availability and candidate experience/skillset in relation to the minimum requirements of this position.
