Materials Engineering & Test Laboratory is an engineering-control organization of materials engineers, mechanical engineers, and chemists/chemical engineers. We are looking to hire a Materials & Processes Test Engineering Manager Level 2 onsite in Sunnyvale, CA. The test organization supports gating laboratory testing for specific production activities, engineering R&D activities, and direct-to-customer testing. These activities include root-cause investigations, material property and performance testing production and supplier components & assemblies, metallurgical and metallographic analyses, wet chemistry processes including material recertifications and unknown material identification.

The Materials & Processes Test Engineering Manager Level 2 in this position will be responsible for the management of a team of engineers within the test organization. Paramount among this manager’s responsibilities will be the training, growth, and retention of their staff. This organization is tasked with meeting the demands of both conventional and uncommon/challenging testing requirements. Ensuring that the right individuals with the right abilities are available to commit to those activities will be a key discriminator for success in this role.

An individual in this role would be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Sunnyvale Materials Engineering Test Laboratory. The expectations for this position include:

  • Direct management of 6+ test engineers

  • Training and expansion of skillsets of staff

  • Ownership of scheduling and conflict resolution of test activities within the laboratory

  • Oversight of equipment maintenance & calibration

  • Ownership of controlled documentation for laboratory-related activities.

  • Ownership of laboratory-related process improvements.

  • Capital project support and execution

  • Management of procurement activities for laboratory environment

  • Management of the intake of consumables and the safe handling of waste products.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) discipline with 8 years of relevant engineering experience; OR a Master's Degree in a STEM discipline with 6 years of relevant engineering experience.

  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams.

  • This role requires materials engineering/science background or a related discipline with an emphasis on materials engineering/science is required for this role.

  • A strong knowledge of industry testing standards and common practices related to mechanical testing, metallurgical analyses, chemical laboratory processes, industrial equipment use and safe operation, and the safe handling of non-radioactive hazardous materials is required for this role.

  • US Citizenship required.

  • Active Secret clearance required.

Primary Level Salary Range: $146,600.00 - $219,800.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
