About this role:
Wells Fargo is seeking a Senior Lead Credit Risk Officer to lead Account Opening, Customer Identification Program (CIP), and Early Month on Book (EMOB) strategies supporting Business Credit Card originations.
This role is responsible for developing, optimizing, and governing decision strategies that support customer onboarding, identity verification, customer due diligence, application processing, and early account management. The individual will own critical strategy frameworks that influence application decisioning, fraud prevention, operational efficiency, regulatory compliance, and customer experience outcomes across the originations lifecycle.
Working closely with Credit Risk, Product, Operations, Financial Crimes, Fraud, Compliance, Analytics, Modeling, and Technology partners, this leader will identify opportunities to improve decision effectiveness, reduce unnecessary friction and referrals, and optimize onboarding outcomes through data-driven strategy development and execution. In this role, you will:
Own Account Opening, Customer Identification Program (CIP), customer due diligence, and Early Month on Book (EMOB) decision strategies supporting Business Credit Card originations
Develop and optimize decision frameworks, verification strategies, referral treatments, and onboarding controls that balance risk management, regulatory requirements, operational efficiency, and customer experience
Lead strategy performance monitoring across application funnels, verification outcomes, approval rates, referral volumes, fraud indicators, onboarding effectiveness, and early account performance
Identify drivers of performance variance and execute strategy enhancements through data analysis, testing, segmentation, rule refinement, and operational feedback
Translate analytical findings, business priorities, customer needs, and risk considerations into actionable strategy recommendations and measurable outcomes
Partner with Product, Operations, Financial Crimes, Fraud, Compliance, Analytics, Modeling, Technology, and business stakeholders to design, implement, and optimize onboarding and decisioning strategies
Lead strategy changes through governance, validation, implementation, and change-management processes while ensuring appropriate documentation, traceability, and control adherence
Influence senior leaders and decision forums by presenting complex analytical, operational, regulatory, and customer experience considerations in a clear and actionable manner
Support modernization initiatives that simplify legacy decision structures, improve scalability, and enhance onboarding and customer identification capabilities
Ensure strategies align with applicable regulatory requirements, internal policies, audit expectations, and risk governance standards
Required Qualifications
7+ years of Credit Risk experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
Desired Qualifications
Experience owning credit risk, onboarding, customer identification, fraud, verification, underwriting, or account-opening strategies supporting Business Credit Card, Small Business Lending, Commercial Card, Consumer Credit Card, or unsecured revolving credit portfolios
Familiarity with Customer Identification Program (CIP), Know Your Customer (KYC), customer due diligence, business entity verification, beneficial ownership, identity verification, fraud controls, and onboarding decision frameworks
Experience supporting formal approvals, independent challenge, audit activities, regulatory reviews, risk assessments, and strategy governance processes
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including experience evaluating complex business problems, identifying root causes, and driving measurable performance improvements
Proficiency with SQL, SAS, Python, or similar tools used to support strategy development, performance monitoring, testing, and analytics
Demonstrated success developing and optimizing decision strategies that balance customer experience, risk management, operational efficiency, fraud prevention, and portfolio objectives
Experience monitoring and optimizing application funnels, onboarding outcomes, referral rates, verification performance, approval rates, and early account behavior
Proven ability to influence stakeholders across Credit Risk, Product, Operations, Financial Crimes, Fraud, Compliance, Analytics, Modeling, and Technology organizations
Experience translating regulatory requirements, policy guidance, operational considerations, customer experience objectives, and risk frameworks into actionable decision strategies
Experience modernizing decision strategies, simplifying legacy rule structures, or implementing scalable decisioning frameworks
Strong executive communication skills, including experience presenting strategy recommendations, performance insights, and business outcomes to senior leadership
Job Expectations:
Ability to travel up to 10% of the time
