Endoscopy Technician – Outpatient

Indian River Hospital’s Scully Endoscopy Center is used for outpatient endoscopy and special procedures. Endoscopy is a minimally invasive procedure used to help physicians more thoroughly explore internal areas of the body, such as the colon, esophagus and small bowel.  
 

A caregiver in this position works 6:30AM – 4:00PM.  
 

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

  • Assist physicians with all endoscopic procedures, including colonoscopies, esophagogastroduodenoscopies (EGD), ERCP, flexible sigmoidoscopies, and EUS.  

  • Ensure proper cleaning and maintenance of all endoscopes and completion of all documentation logs and records.  

  • Assist the RN with patient care, including admission of patients, setting up rooms, transporting patients, patient recovery and final cleaning of rooms. 

  • Assist nurses and physicians in all aspects of GI procedures. This includes assisting with stocking rooms with equipment and supplies and maintaining proper procedures for cleaning and storing endoscopes. 

  • Change chemical sterilants and clean scope washers. 

  • Assess endoscopes daily, report any damage to the director and prepare and send out scopes for repair. 

  • Transport specimens. 

  • Make pre-op calls to patient to obtain preliminary information 


Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • High school diploma or GED.  

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA).  

  • One year of experience in a hospital setting.  


Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: 

  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Certified Medical Assistant (CMT).
