About the Opportunity
Due to a major acquisition, we have a newly created opportunity in Brisbane or Melbourne for a Tax Manager reporting directly to the Australian and New Zealand Country Tax Manager. You will be part of a global team working with high-calibre tax professionals supporting the Australian, New Zealand and Oceanic operations of a large multinational group.
Whilst this role has no direct reports, it provides an opportunity to collaborate directly with the leadership, finance and operations teams in the newly acquired business which specialises in state-of-the-art mining technology. In addition, the successful applicant will provide income tax support to the existing Australian and New Zealand businesses which operate predominately in the mining, construction and energy & transportation industries.
In this role, you will play a critical part in ensuring ongoing income tax compliance and governance obligations are met and you will provide strategic income tax advice and guidance to our business partners on a range of issues.
This is a role that puts you at the centre of the business operations as well in direct contact with business leaders, advisors and Australian Tax authorities – exceptional communication skills are essential.
Key Responsibilities:
Collaborate with income tax advisors, finance and global business services to ensure accurate and timely completion of income tax, FBT, R&D and FIRB compliance obligations.
Support routine income tax reviews and audits, and provide technical income tax advice and guidance on a wide variety of issues as required
Communicate income tax compliance and reporting issues effectively to management and raise awareness of emerging tax matters.
Identify and implement process improvement initiatives to strengthen income tax compliance and governance.
Assist the Senior Tax Manager in analysing new tax legislation and providing advice on its application
In partnership with the global tax and treasury teams, analyse opportunities for cash repatriations on a quarterly basis
Assist the APAC and Global Tax teams as required on global disclosure requirements, including Country-by-Country Reporting, Pillar 2 Global Minimum Tax Reporting and ongoing anti-hybrid analysis.
Design and implement an income tax control framework in Australia, including the design and documentation of key processes, procedures and risks, together with a program of control testing.
Qualifications, Experience and Attributes
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline
Professional certification (eg CPA, ACA) preferred
Proven experience in Tax within Commerce or Public Practice (5-10 years’ experience ideally with exposure across large or complex organisations), with strong understanding of tax concepts and laws
Skilled in governance, compliance, and applying technology for efficiency and control
Ability to work confidently across multiple entities and jurisdictions
Strong project management, analytical, and problem-solving abilities
Exceptional communication skills (written and verbal) and ability to work under pressure in a dynamic environment
Proficient in accounting systems (SAP) and Microsoft Office

You will work with a variety of business partners both in Australia and globally, including Indirect Tax, Transfer Pricing, Accounting for Income Taxes, Legal, Finance, HR, Payroll, Treasury and Trade.
Developing a sound understanding of business operations will be crucial to your success in this role, as will the ability to develop strong working relationships with the operational and functional business teams you will support.
Some travel may be required from time to time
