About the Role

The post includes 7 to 8 contact sessions per week including public and private hospital operating, access to robotic operating sessions, outpatient clinic, colonoscopy and pelvic floor investigation. Opportunity for research has dedicated sessions and is guided by experienced clinicians. Remuneration is in the form of part salary, part private assisting fees and part on call allowance from the public hospital. There is an opportunity to obtain a higher degree with the post being extended to two years. The project would be in inflammatory bowel disease with co-supervision from the gastroenterology team. 

The post will provide the applicant with both experience and knowledge and may place them in good standing for applying for accredited training. In addition, they will gain skills in pelvic floor investigation including 3D ultrasound, pudendal nerve terminal motor latency and manometry. The applicant should have completed FRACS part 2 examinations in general surgery prior to the end of 2024 and be registered to practise medicine in Australia and hold GESA accreditation for colonoscopy.
 

Duties

  • Participate in a mixed clinical/research fellow role in a busy tertiary colorectal unit
  • Participate in the supervision and teaching of junior medical staff and medical students.
  • Participate in general/colorectal on-call roster at fellow level
  • Conduct Colorectal Research and bring projects to publication and presentation
  • Work under supervision of senior consultant staff attached to the Colorectal Unit.


Classifications for this position will range from HM25-HM30 ($125,900.84 - $173,290.00 per annum).

About the Colorectal Department
The St Vincent’s Colorectal unit comprises 8 colorectal surgeons under the direction of Dr James Keck. The unit has a busy workload in particular in colon and rectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, laparoscopic colorectal surgery and pelvic floor investigation and treatment. In addition to the 8 surgeons, the unit has 1 accredited (TBCRS) colorectal fellow, 1 advanced surgical trainee, an unaccredited registrar and 2 interns and this clinical research fellow position.
