Job Description Summary:

The faculty member will direct the Cellular Therapeutic Laboratory within the Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine and the Division of Hematologic Malignancies and Cellular Therapeutics. Responsibilities include overseeing laboratory operations, ensuring regulatory compliance, supporting clinical and research initiatives, and contributing to teaching and service activities. This full-time appointment may be on the tenure track or Clinical Scholar Track at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Professor, depending on qualifications and experience.

Job Duties:

  • Cellular Processing & Manufacturing: Perform cellular assays; prepare, process, and test cellular materials for therapeutic use, including cell selection and cryopreservation; operate and maintain cell processing equipment.

  • Quality Assurance & Control: Ensure strict adherence to Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and quality standards; monitor processes; perform product characterization, release assays, and maintain detailed documentation.

  • Troubleshooting: Identify and resolve issues related to cellular processing, equipment malfunctions, and laboratory procedures.

  • Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to enhance existing protocols and contribute to the development of new, more efficient procedures.

  • Collaboration: Work with multidisciplinary teams of scientists, clinicians, and regulatory experts to ensure patient safety and therapeutic efficacy; support preclinical studies and translational initiatives.

Required Qualifications:

Education: MD or MD/PhD.

This position requires a formal degree in the cited discipline area(s) to ensure that candidates have the foundational knowledge and skill set required to perform the duties of the position.  The level of degree is based on accreditation requirements, institutional standards of academic and professional excellence, alignment with peer institution benchmarks, and contributes to the credibility and effectiveness of the role within the university community.

Certification/Licensure: Board certification in Pathology and Laboratory Medicine or related subspecialties.

Preferred Qualifications:

Work Experience:

  • Training and publication records in the field of Cellular Therapies as demonstrated by application materials.

  • An active research program with external funding.
