Summary of Job Duties:

Clinical Pharmacist Specialists are responsible for providing safe, effective, and prompt medication therapy, supporting both centralized and decentralized medication-use systems. They deliver patient-centered care in collaboration with physicians, nurses, and other hospital personnel, focusing on medication therapy management and integrated pharmaceutical care. Their roles involve assessing patient needs, tailoring drug therapy, preventing adverse events, serving as liaisons to other departments, and participating in clinical research and quality initiatives. They also provide education and training for pharmacy students and residents and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.


Qualifications:

Minimum Required Qualifications:

  • Completion of an ASHP-accredited PGY-1 residency and/or at least 5 years equivalent previous clinical experience in adult emergency medicine

  • Certification as a licensed Registered Pharmacist by the State of Arkansas or eligible for licensure. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Completion of an ASHP-accredited PGY2 residency in critical care or emergency medicine

  • 5-years of experience working as a pharmacist in a level 1 trauma center and comprehensive stroke center


Additional Information:

Responsibilities:

  • Reviews and interprets prescriber's orders and detects appropriateness of therapy; prepares and dispenses medications.

  • Prepares sterile admixtures using proper aseptic technique.

  • Prepares chemotherapy according to departmental policies and procedures. Answers client questions regarding prescription renewal, dosage, and side effects.

  • Serves as a primary or co-preceptor for rotational students; provides formal, in-depth training of students and new staff.

  • Assists with development of educational materials and in-services for staff development.

  • Directs, advises, and instructs staff in assigned area in all activities pertaining to job duties and functions.

  • Assists leadership in all aspects of pharmacy operations in area of assigned responsibility.

  • Serves as a liaison between the pharmacy service line and the assigned practice area.

  • Promotes a safe working environment by adhering to UAMS patient safety plan.

  • Ensures equipment and facilities are used, calibrated, and maintained properly.

  • Fulfills other duties as assigned.
