POSITION SUMMARY:

The Safety Specialist will have responsibility for resort-wide safety programs affecting employees, guests, and volunteers.. The Safety Specialist will continually refine and develop the resort safety program and be familiar with applicable OSHA regulations. This position will report directly to the resort Risk and Safety Manager. This position will work toward safety awareness in the workplace with all Business Unit Managers and Supervisors, as well as toward the safety and well being of our resort guests.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Receive First Report of Injury
  • Report all claims to W/C Insurance Rep.                                                           
  • Coordinate with injured employee and care giver 
  • Track progress of recovery/ return to work progress    
  • Manage employee return to work program                                          
  • Tracking of W/C occurrences and costs                                                                                                     
  • Maintain Risk Management Files                                                        
  • Coordinate W/C incident investigation                                                            
  • Communication with medical providers                          
  • Compile W/C statistics
  • Analysis of loss trends for each operation
  • Prepare W/C reports for management
  • Provide training to management team regarding workers compensation processes and procedures                                                                                                               
  • Make recommendations to Risk Manager and other entities
  • Administer CDL (Commercial Drivers) Program monthly
  • Ensure compliance with company drug & alcohol testing policy
  • Work closely with legal counsel as needed
  • Provide administrative support to Risk and Safety Department
  • Coordinate Safety Communicator program
  • Assist with and coordinate safety programs
  • Track general liability and property damage claims
  • Maintain Certificate of Insurance and release files
  • Other duties as assigned

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must possess: friendly, helpful attitude; organizational skills; neat and professional appearance.
  • Computer familiarity with Excel, Word (or equivelant word processing ability), Power Point is necessary. Access Data Base program familiarity a plus but not required.
  • Must be able to communicate verbally and in written form in a clear, concise, professional and tactful manner.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

Education:

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Degree or education in Safety or Health related field a plus but not required.
  • Other Safety / Regulatory licensing, accreditations, or certifications a plus but not required.

Experience:

  • Experience in risk management, insurance, health care, and/or emergency services industries prefered.
  • 5+ years in ski industry or resort operations preferred.
  • Risk Management and/or Regulatory Compliance experience a plus but not required.
  • Experience working with, or familiarity with OSHA regulations a plus but not required.

WAGE:

The base hourly pay represents the low and high end of Winter Park Resort’s hourly pay range for this position. Actual pay will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to experience, education, training, location, merit system, quantity or quality of production, responsibilities, and regular and/or necessary travel. The range listed is just one component of Winter Park Resort’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include many region-specific benefits.

Hourly pay range: $24-26
