Central Maine Healthcare is looking for a Perioperative Registered Nurse to join the Orthopedic Surgical Center team!
This is a Per Diem position
The Perioperative Registered Nurse is part of an excellent team that encompasses all three phases of surgery (the pre-, intra- and post- operative stages) and provides, manages, teaches, and studies the care of patients undergoing surgery or other procedures.
Education and Experience:
- Registered Nurse degree from an accredited school of nursing
- Active State of Maine Nursing license or eligible for licensure
- Knowledge of nursing in an ambulatory surgery center setting with emphasis on surgical risk factors, patient pre-intra-and post-operative learning needs preferred.
- Orthopedic nursing experience helpful
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) required; PALS certification required within 6 months and no later than one year from date of hire.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills necessary for interacting with patients, physicians, supervisors and other staff
- Skill in time management, prioritizing and medical care coordination
- Ability to organize and accomplish tasks, and have the flexibility to meet changing demands on daily basis
- Ability to demonstrate compassion and caring in dealing with others
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Ability to project and maintain a professional image
- Ability to work independently and excel as part of a team
- Excellent customer service skills
- Proficient computer skills
Essential Duties:
- Establishes an environment of safety for the surgical patient.
- Assesses, diagnoses, implements, and evaluates treatments and procedures that contribute to the physiological stability for the surgical patient.
- Demonstrates knowledge regarding the psychologic, sociologic, and spiritual responses of patients and their families to the operative or other procedure, including participation of patients in their recovery.
- Supports patient rights and ethics by delivering consistent, competent, and ethical care within legal standards of practice, while maintaining privacy and support of the patient’s value system.
- Demonstrates knowledge of the health system environment and administrative issues that impact job performance, patient safety, and ethical considerations.
- Ensure that all physician orders are carried out appropriately and timely
- Gather and ensure that proper supplies and equipment are available in the OR and for the operation
- Assists and passes medical instrument or other objects to surgeon as needed during operation
- Obtains concurrent vital signs to detect deviations from expected normal values and assesses condition
- Supports patient rights and ethics by delivering consistent, competent, and ethical care within legal standards of practice, while maintaining privacy and support of the patient’s value system
- Consistently communicates effectively and respectfully with the patient to assure they understand all procedures and feel as comfortable as possible
- Maintains consistent and accurate patient care documentation.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Daily use of computer operating instruments; stationary PC, Laptop PC, keyboard and mouse
- Light lifting of paperwork, folders or other general record keeping materials
- Operation of various office equipment: fax machine, telephone & voice mail system, stationary/lap top computer, e-mail system, scanner, and copier
- Lifting up to 20 pounds occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds frequently
- Walks frequently
- May be required to sit or stand for extended periods of time
- Risk of exposure to hazardous conditions and blood borne pathogens
- Occasional reaching, twisting, bending
