Managing Director, Commercial Underwriting supports the Healthcare CRE team in originating, underwriting, and arranging commercial loans, in addition to credit requests and risk management activities related to credit origination, refinancings and loan modifications for existing portfolio relationships. This role is tasked to partner with the Line of Business to onboard new client relationships and provide high-quality underwriting consistent with the bank's risk tolerance standards.

  • Partner with BU Head and Relationship Managers on all facets of underwriting and closing senior debt financings and related credit requests for new and existing client relationships.
  • Consult with Relationship Managers in recommending loan structure, presentation of financing proposals, and negotiation of finance terms with client.
  • Prepare high-quality, analytically detailed credit approval documents containing an in-depth SWOT analysis and understanding of the transaction, customer business model, industry and market trends and identification of key issues and risks.
  • Lead deal management process and all diligence activities, prepare financial models, prepare deal screen and final credit approval presentations in accordance with Webster's credit policies and procedures; present and lead credit committee discussion; manage all facets of loan closing with product partners (Treasury, Portfolio, Operations, Loan Syndication).
  • Continuously contribute to improving the quality and consistency of the business' underwriting standards and service offering to clients.
  • Assist in training and development of credit analysts and underwriters through effective coaching and professional development opportunities.
  • Demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of Webster credit products and services and the ability to form trusted consultative relationships with clients.

Education, Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance; MBA preferred.
  • 10+ years in commercial banking, private credit, commercial finance with formal credit training and experience in senior underwriter role.
  • Strong finance, credit, accounting, and financial statement analysis skills.
  • Healthcare Industry experience a plus.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to liaise with Clients, RMs, PMs, Senior Risk Officers, and Executive Management.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to manage and cultivate business relationships.
  • Driven, well organized, and able to work independently in a fast-paced environment.

The estimated salary range for this position is $200,000.00 to $210,000.00. Actual salary may vary up or down depending on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this position is eligible for incentive compensation.
