College Intern - Software Experience Design

Description -

What a College Intern – Software Experience Design does at HP:

  • Contribute as a member of the Consumer Print UX team.
  • Help drive innovation, bringing new technologies and design language into projects across the Print Design organization and partner teams.
  • Participate in user research and interaction studies.
  • Gather and evaluate user requirements alongside product managers and engineers.
  • Translate user stories and business requirements into effective designs.
  • Illustrate design ideas through storyboards, process flows, prototypes, and sitemaps.
  • Identify and troubleshoot UX problems.
  • Review designs and project work against current UX guidelines and standards, giving clear feedback to improve quality and experience.

This role also includes a growing emphasis on designing with and for AI:

  • Already uses AI tools in their own design or side projects — comfortable prototyping with tools like v0, Figma Make, Cursor, or Claude code/Claude Design/ Claude Artifacts, and able to pick up new ones fast.
  • Design AI-powered features, with attention to how they set expectations, handle errors, and earn user trust.
  • Critique AI-driven experiences with a sharp eye — telling genuinely good AI design apart from novelty.

Individuals who do well in this role at HP usually possess:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Design, Human Factors Engineering, Social Sciences, Business, or a related field.
  • A good grasp of design theories, principles, and concepts applied to consumer products and services.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Familiarity with planning and running user research and data collection for UX testing.
  • Ability to present design work and rationale clearly, including to senior stakeholders.
  • Curiosity about AI and a willingness to experiment with AI tools in the design process, plus comfort picking up new tools quickly.
  • Availability for a 5–6 month internship starting around July 2026.
