Job Description

THE ROLE: Engineering Manager, Media and Content Services

This role focuses on managing and mentoring a team of Software Engineers focused on applications supporting content management and media workflows that power all of A+E Networks’ consumer facing Owned and Operated sites and apps.

Day to Day:

  • Manage a team that develops, enhances, and maintains the Content Management System (CMS) and Online Video Platform (OVP) based applications in collaboration with cross-functional teams
  • Optimize and extend A+E’s CMS functionality to meet the evolving needs of digital businesses
  • Optimize OVP features to ensure a premium video user experience; integrate encoding & streaming pipelines with the OVP
  • Integrate third-party systems into the CMS/OVP for seamless metadata workflows
  • Oversee OVP integrations with ad-serving platforms (display and video) - ensure proper ad display across web sites and apps
  • Provide technical leadership by proposing solutions to business challenges, including recommending architectural changes when necessary.
  • Identify areas for automation and scalability in the content production pipeline
  • Ensure that technical issues are resolved in a timely manner
  • Ensure timely project delivery, manage project timelines, proactively identify and mitigate risks
  • Ensure applications are maintained and updated with the latest frameworks and runtimes
  • Conduct regular code reviews to ensure code quality is maintained.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends in image & video technology, and content management, proactively recommend updates or improvements

Leadership and Collaboration

  • Navigate work in a fast-paced environment where technologies are rapidly changing.
  • Cultivate a high-performing team environment by fostering open communication, transparency, integrity, trust, and collaboration within the development team and across departments.
  • Work in close collaboration with CMS/OVP Product Manager, technology leadership and key stakeholders to define deliverables, allocate resources, and refine roadmaps
  • Work closely with consumer teams to implement best practices in CMS/OVP integrations
  • Measure team productivity using quantifiable metrics and suggest improvements and drive towards efficiencies.
  • Perform regular check ins with Individual Contributors and give day to day direction.

YOUR STORY: Engineering Manager, Media and Content Services

  • Extensive Development Experience: including a minimum of 7 years in application development, with technologies such as Node.js and programming languages like JavaScript, Typescript, Python and similar programming languages
  • Leadership and Collaboration experience including a minimum of 3 years of oversight of direct reports or as a technical development lead.
  • Proven ability to oversee projects and people, including the ability to influence and build relationships across teams, even without direct reporting authority.
  • CI/CD Proficiency: Deep understanding of the entire Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery pipeline, from code versioning and testing to deployment.
  • AWS Proficiency: Strong understanding of the AWS platform; AWS Solutions Architect or Developer certification is a plus.
  • Experience with CMS systems like Wordpress and Contentful is a plus
  • Experience with media encoding and streaming with systems like Bitmovin, CVP, Akamai and Fastly is a strong plus

Compensation

Annual Pay Range: $143,787 - $168,231

Annual Incentive Target: 12.50%


 

The annual/hourly pay range displayed serves as a good faith estimate of the

minimum and maximum base pay range for this role. Compensation for the role will

be based on a number of different factors such as a candidate’s qualifications, skills,
