We are on a mission to revolutionize commerce globally by developing unique, best-of-breed fraud detection solutions. AI and Machine Learning are key competitive advantages at PayPal, significantly reducing payment risk loss, bringing millions of dollars in revenue, and enhancing the user experience. We are seeking a highly motivated, self-starter Senior software Engineer to join our AI/ML Engineering team to help achieve this mission. This role will help shape the next generation of checkout at PayPal impacting over 400+ million consumers and 30+ million merchants worldwide by creating AI/ML foundations and capabilities that deliver a delightful and personalized shopping and checkout experience.

Job Description:

Essential Responsibilities:

• Delivers complete solutions spanning all phases of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) (design, implementation, testing, delivery and operations), based on definitions from more senior roles.
• Advises immediate management on project-level issues
• Guides junior engineers
• Operates with little day-to-day supervision, making technical decisions based on knowledge of internal conventions and industry best practices
• Applies knowledge of technical best practices in making decisions

Minimum Qualifications:

• Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience and a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.

Preferred Qualification:

Objectives

• Collaborate with data scientists, administrators, data analysts, data engineers, and data architects on production systems and applications
• Identify differences in data distribution that could potentially affect model performance in real-world applications
• Ensure algorithms generate accurate user recommendations
• Stay up to date with developments in the machine learning industry
• Study and transform data science prototypes and apply appropriate machine learning algorithms and tools
• Consult with managers to determine and refine machine learning objectives
• Extend existing machine learning libraries and frameworks

Skills and qualifications

• Impeccable analytical and problem-solving skills
• Extensive math and computer skills, with a deep understanding of probability, statistics, and algorithms
• Excellent time management and organizational skills
• Desire to learn

Preferred qualifications

• Familiarity with data structures, data modeling, and software architecture
• Familiar with AI/ML, Gen AI and Cloud technologies
• Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in computer science, mathematics, or related field
