Job Description:
General Description: Under the general direction of the Pharmacy Manager, the retail pharmacy intern is responsible for performing tasks involved in the preparation and distribution of medications checked by a licensed Pharmacist while under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist.

- Highly detail oriented and well organized.
- Help maintain a clean and orderly pharmacy.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and communicate clearly with pharmacy staff.
- Maintain a high level of professionalism at all times, including attendance and phone etiquette.
- Responsible for reporting safety issues and errors in a timely manner to a supervisor.
- Assist the pharmacist on duty with tasks necessary for the operation of the pharmacy.
Inpatient Pharmacy Intern Responsibilities:
- Reviews and assesses medication/IV orders for, but not limited to drug interactions, drug admixture incompatibilities.
- Reviews medication/IV orders for appropriateness based on; but not limited to age, expectations of patient/family and other health care providers.
- Provides clinical interventions through communication with physicians, nurses and other health care professionals and patients.
- Prepares intravenous admixtures/other sterile products under lamina flow hood utilizing aseptic technique 100% of the time.
Outpatient (Retail) Pharmacy Intern Responsibilities:
- Receive and input new discharge patient medication orders into pharmacy management software.
- Complete patient prescriptions from start to finish; input, fill and/or package, and deliver.
- Under supervision of a preceptor, prepare adherence packaged discharge patient medications.
- Assist the pharmacist on duty to answer clinical questions regarding use of medications.
- Subsequent to verified order entry by a Doctor of Pharmacy, places properly packaged medication in labeled containers to be verified by a Doctor of Pharmacy.
- Weighs, measures, and mixes drugs and other medicinal compounds, and fills bottles or capsules with correct quantity and composition of preparation.
- Stores and preserves biological, vaccines, serums, and other drugs subject to deterioration, utilizing refrigeration and other methods.
General Responsibilities:
Performs other duties as assigned
Education: High school diploma or GED required. Must be currently enrolled and in good standing with an accredited college of pharmacy approved by the Oklahoma State Board of Pharmacy, graduated from an accredited college of pharmacy with registration pending, or in the process of satisfying internship requirements for foreign graduates taking the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy North American Pharmacist Licensure Examination (NABPLEX).
Experience: None. This position allows for on-the-job training.
Licensure/Certifications/Registrations Required: Active Oklahoma licensed intern permit required. License must be in good standing.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Detail oriented for accuracy of data and information
- Customer Service oriented.
- Ability to lift 50 to 100 lbs.
- Ability to climb, crouch, bend, stoop, push, or pull.
- Knowledge of the principles and procedures associated with pharmacology.
- Good communication skills along with the ability to translate technical information into terms the general public can understand.
