Information Systems and Cyber Division (ISCD) staff couple the latest in information system technologies, such as elastic compute clouds, containerization, microservices, real-time operating systems, and visualization frameworks, with expertise in cyber security, software architecture, software engineering, data science, Artificial Intelligence, process improvement, and software development to deliver responsive, resilient, high-performance software intensive systems to our Intelligence Community, DoD,  and civilian customers.

We are seeking a Director for the Software Implementation and Integration Department in the Software Engineering Subdivision (SES) of ISCD who will work directly with our internal and external customers to provide modern software capabilities and processes to our customers through the rapid development and deployment of new concepts, pushing beyond current functionality and driving future software solutions​. This is a technical leadership position that plays an essential role in influencing the state of the art of software implementation and the best software integration practices.   The Director will lead and run an impactful team of software engineers proficient in all areas related to software design, development, and deployment to address challenges in various space enterprise application domains.

Work Model

  • This is a full-time position based in Chantilly, Virginia which requires 100% onsite work.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Partnering with the Software Engineering subdivision (SES) management team to provide engineering resources and expertise to SES customers
  • Providing senior technical guidance to the Software Implementation and Integration Department
  • Advising SES staff and customer regarding acquisition strategies and program decisions considering software deployment and integration risks 
  • Collaborating with SES and department staff to identify, develop, apply, and amplify software implementation and integration methods considering customer needs
  • Contributing to the execution of task plans, developing staff in their career progression, mentoring, hiring, and collaborating with the leadership chain
  • Addressing workforce needs, personnel development, and performance evaluations
  • Engaging in matrix support planning to ensure skills are available to meet customer needs
  • Understanding the drivers of change and actively contributing to its acceptance at the local/team level
  • Identifying roadblocks and modifying existing approaches to achieve greater efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Utilizing oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills

What You Need to be Successful - Computer Engineering - Software Architecture Engineering and Systems Software Engineering

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree STEM, emphasis in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or other technical field of study
  • Proven expertise in technical leadership and extensive experience managing geographically distributed teams
  • 10 or more years of experience in software development
  •  4 or more years of experience in people management and leadership roles
  • .An established robust technical foundation coupled with clearly demonstrated expertise in software  engineering
  • Distinguished record of technical leadership with a proven ability to drive impactful results
  • Familiarity with National Security Space systems and advanced space technologies
  • Exemplary track record demonstrating the ability to build an environment of teamwork and develop/grow an organization by providing consistent mentoring, coaching, and training opportunities
  • Experienced skillsets in providing thoughtful and strategic guidance to decision makers.
  • Willing to travel [occasionally to work location or customer site/domestically/internationally] approx. 25%
  • This position requires an Active Top Secret/SCI security clearance, which is issued by the U.S. government ; U.S citizenship is required to obtain a TS/SCI clearance.

How You Can Stand Out

It would be impressive if you have one or more of these:

  • Familiarity with civil and commercial space systems
  • Experience developing software intensive systems and with implementing process improvement change, including the migration from waterfall approaches to DevSecOps 
  • Familiarity with the software development methodologies and cloud frameworks at the enterprise level
  • Experience with and understanding of Aerospace and customer business processes
  • Experience working with the Aerospace Engineering matrix
  • Experience and expertise managing geographically dispersed workforce
