Role purpose

The Sanitation operator is a critical role in our operations in Sycamore, IL.  Incumbents in this role are responsible for all aspects of the sanitation process in the operations area, including, sanitation, chemical safety, standard maintenance, as well as assisting team members.

As a Sanitation Operator the incumbent is responsible for:

  • Supporting T&L’s EHSQ policies and procedures in the execution of their job responsibilities in routine, non-routine, and emergency conditions.
  • Notifying their supervisor or EHSQ committee member of any spills, equipment malfunctions, environmental conditions, or management practice that could represent an existing or potential safety hazard or significant environmental impact.
  • Notifying their supervisor or EHSQ committee member of any conditions or practices that could represent a nonconformance with the requirements of the EHSQMS or its supporting plans and procedures.
  • Performance of the environmental, health and safety monitoring and inspections according to their job responsibilities and submittal of required records.
  • Support lock tag try, confined space, hot work, and work permits.
  • Understand the lifesaving principles and how they apply to TLIA’s work environment.

Main accountabilities

  • Perform all job functions/activities with a commitment to a strong safety mindset and compliance with all outlined safety policies
  • Dry cleaning of production and warehousing areas: Including brushing, sweeping, mopping
  • Minor disassembly and reassembly of equipment for washing
  • Full wet washing of production rooms and equipment
  • Completing of daily, weekly, monthly Master Sanitation Schedule tasks
  • Model Tate & Lyle values within the Sanitation Team
  • Comprehend and adhere to all applicable site policies and procedures
  • Direct, and subsequently audit, area work that requires permits and safety oversight.
  • Perform and execute outlined standards for housekeeping and GMP, and properly documented
  • Work with the Maintenance Manager to help resolve technical problems and improve operational performance.
  • Accurately document required food safety, quality and sanitation information
  • Assist in audits

The incumbent will be measured against site EHS, Quality, Production, Reliability and Leadership goals.

Skills and experience required 

  • Highschool diploma/GED or equivalent experience required
  • Previous experience with food manufacturing wet cleaning with use of chemicals preferred but not required. We are able to provide all necessary training for the role.
  • Possessing of a strong, positive safety mindset while performing all functions/activities
  • Committed to our customers through ensuring compliance with all applicable GMP and food safety policies and procedures
  • Able to communicate openly, honestly, and directly in a non-aggressive fashion with all members of the plant team
  • Self-starting and self-managing
  • Goal-oriented and focused on continuous improvement of themselves as individuals and the overall operation of the area
  • Able to execute actions and work within teams
  • Possessing of strong problem-solving skills.
  • Good under pressure, and able to work to tight deadlines
  • Dependable and punctual in meeting expectations for attendance and performance
  • Able to work a varying schedule, if needed, as process upsets and area issues arise
  • The ability to climb stairs and ladders, lift and carry 55 lbs., and perform other physical duties
