Summary
The Department of Computer Science in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Iowa State University seeks outstanding applicants for a Communications Specialist II position. This role supports the department’s strategic goal of strengthening student recruitment by building and maintaining meaningful relationships with prospective students. The position also plays a key role in enhancing connections with alumni and industry partners to expand student opportunities, increase departmental visibility, and foster engagement.
The ideal candidate will be creative, highly organized, and comfortable engaging with students, alumni, and external partners. They will also have experience managing digital content, publications, and social media platforms.
Key Responsibilities
Supporting Undergraduate Student Recruitment and Engagement
Help to build relationships with prospective undergraduate students through communications highlighting the department’s programs, student success stories, and career opportunities, as well as follow-up, and engagement initiatives, through working with the college recruitment and communications team and the department recruitment team.
Digital Content Management and Marketing
Manage and update department website content with compelling written and visual content to ensure it is engaging, student-focused, and visually appealing to prospective students and families.
Manage and grow the department’s social media including Reddit, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.
Edit and manage production of the department’s Atanasoff Today magazine.
Alumni and Industry Engagement
Help to support the Foundation team to develop and maintain relationships with donors, alumni and industry partners.
Help to identify alumni who have potential for industry partnership to engage students.
Event and Outreach Participation
Participate in events engaging prospective students and alumni.

• Intermediate-level position with solid professional and/or technical skills working under general supervision to achieve goals
• Applies broad, working knowledge of the principles of the field to moderately complex, difficult, and varied problems and issues
• Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action and resolve problems
• Responds to a broad range of inquiries and requests
• May provide training and/or direction to lower-level staff
• May lead projects of moderate scope and complexity
• Provides guidance to students
Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an ongoing basis without sponsorship. Immigration sponsorship is not available for this position.
