Job Description:

About C&R Software

C&R Software (www.crsoftware.com) builds and operates large‑scale, mission‑critical systems that support the full collections and recovery lifecycle for organizations around the world. Our platforms enable customers to manage complex, highly regulated workflows with efficiency, security, and compliance at scale.

Our flagship product, Debt Manager, is the industry’s leading collections and recovery platform, trusted by hundreds of organizations across more than 60 countries. Its highly configurable architecture supports a wide range of industries, including financial institutions, government entities, utilities and telecoms, collection agencies, and debt buyers.

Debt Manager is a cloud‑native SaaS platform built and operated on AWS. It is the only end‑to‑end collections and recovery system of its kind, unifying collections, recovery, and communications into a single, highly available platform. The system manages over $8 trillion globally as a system of record, operating at significant scale with strong requirements for reliability, security, performance, and compliance.

C&R Software focuses on automation‑first delivery, modern CI/CD practices, infrastructure as code, and AI‑enabled operations to reduce operational toil and improve system reliability. Our teams work on real‑world challenges involving scale, resilience, hybrid cloud/on‑prem environments, and continuous delivery in a highly regulated domain.

Department:  Operations – DevOps

Role Overview:

The Systems Engineer I is member of the Operations DevOps team responsible for supporting cloud‑first infrastructure, automation, and operational tooling across both AWS-based SaaS platforms and on‑premise environments. This role places a strong emphasis on AWS services, automation, and the use of AI‑assisted tooling to improve reliability, speed, and operational efficiency.

You will work closely with Operations, Product Development, and QA to help design, deploy, and operate secure, scalable systems while learning modern DevOps and Site Reliability Engineering practices. This role is ideal for an engineer who has a strong AWS background, eager to apply AI to day‑to‑day engineering workflows, and motivated to reduce manual effort through automation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support and enhance AWS-based infrastructure supporting SaaS applications and hybrid (cloud/on‑prem) deployments
  • Assist in building, maintaining, and improving CI/CD pipelines that leverage automation and AI-assisted workflows
  • Use AI-powered tools (e.g., for troubleshooting, log analysis, incident triage, and automation development) to improve operational efficiency and reduce time to resolution
  • Participate in infrastructure provisioning and configuration using Infrastructure as Code and automation best practices
  • Support monitoring, alerting, and observability platforms, including the use of AI-driven insights where available
  • Assist with incident response, root cause analysis, and post-incident reviews focused on continuous improvement
  • Collaborate with development teams to improve deployment reliability, self-service capabilities, and developer experience
  • Contribute to documentation, standards, and runbooks to ensure consistency and repeatability
  • Apply security best practices across AWS infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, and operational processes

Qualifications:

  • 2–4 years of experience in systems engineering, cloud operations, or DevOps roles
  • Hands-on experience supporting production workloads in AWS
  • Practical experience using automation and scripting to reduce manual operational tasks
  • Practical experience using AI-assisted engineering tools (for example: AI copilots, automated troubleshooting, or intelligent monitoring) and a strong interest in expanding their use
  • Experience working with Agile or Scrum teams supporting software delivery
  • Strong problem-solving skills and curiosity to understand complex systems end-to-end
  • Ability to document processes and communicate clearly with technical and non-technical partners
  • Desire to grow deeper expertise in cloud, automation, reliability engineering, and AI-enabled operations

AWS Cloud & Infrastructure (Strong Focus):

  • Hands-on experience creating and managing AWS-native infrastructure services across compute, networking, identity and access management, traffic management, storage, and managed data platforms
  • Experience automating cloud infrastructure and operational workflows using AWS CloudFormation (CFT), Step Functions, and Lambda in event‑driven environments
  • Knowledge of AWS security best practices including least-privilege access, identity management, and secure networking

AI, LLMs & Intelligent Operations:

  • Experience using AI-assisted engineering tools (e.g., copilots, automated troubleshooting, intelligent monitoring, or code generation)
  • Familiarity with integrating LLM or AI-driven services into workflows for improved operational efficiency
  • Strong interest in expanding the use of AI-enabled decision support and automation within DevOps and operations contexts

CI/CD & DevOps Tooling:

  • Familiarity with CI/CD platforms such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or similar tools
  • Experience using Git and standard version control workflows
  • Basic understanding of automated testing, build pipelines, and deployment strategies
  • Exposure to pipeline security and shift-left practices

Automation & Scripting:

  • Experience with automation and scripting using Python, Java, Bash, or similar languages
  • Ability to create repeatable, reliable workflows to reduce manual operational effort
  • Experience automating infrastructure, deployments, or operational tasks in cloud environments

Monitoring, Observability & Incident Support:

  • Exposure to monitoring, logging, and alerting tools (cloud-native or third-party)
  • Familiarity with using metrics, logs, and traces to troubleshoot system issues
  • Interest in AI-driven observability and proactive alerting platforms

Security Fundamentals:

  • Awareness of secure system design, secrets management, and data protection practices
  • Understanding of security considerations across CI/CD pipelines, automation, and cloud infrastructure
  • Familiarity with compliance-sensitive or regulated environments is a plus

Bottom Line:

We’re looking for a candidate with strong AWS and AI fundamentals and the drive to apply automation to real operational challenges. If you’re eager to reduce toil, improve reliability, and build scalable systems across cloud and on‑prem environments, you’ll have the opportunity to grow quickly and make a meaningful impact on how our services are delivered.
