The Behavioral Health Counselor-VTCC job provides direct clinical care, primarily for ages 3-17 on an outpatient for the Gastroenterology and access. The clinical services include initial psychosocial/diagnostic assessment, treatment planning, and the implementation of evidenced based therapeutic interventions for individual, family, and group services. The incumbent will have access to other therapists, physicians, nurses, and pharmacists when needed for clinical collaboration.

Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Hire:
Licensed in the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Professional Counselor, Clinical Psychologist, Clinical Social Worker

Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for continued employment:
Current Virginia license as a Professional Counselor, Clinical Psychologist, or Clinical Social Worker

Experience REQUIRED:
Minimum of three (3) years post licensure experience providing initial psychiatric evaluations and psychotherapy in an outpatient setting

Experience PREFERRED:
One (1) year of previous experience providing EAP services
Previous experience providing threat assessments and fitness for work evaluations
Experience in providing substance use / addictions services.

Education/training REQUIRED:
Masters or Doctoral level education in the field of psychology, social work, or counseling from an accredited program

Must be able to evaluate pediatric patients and adult /pediatric EAP clients, formulate an accurate differential diagnosis, and develop and implement an appropriate course of treatment.

We are seeking a licensed behavioral health clinician to join our Pediatric Gastroenterology (PEDS GI) outpatient team. The clinician will play a critical role in addressing the psychological and behavioral aspects of gastrointestinal conditions, providing therapeutic interventions to improve patient outcomes and quality of life. Responsibilities include conducting clinical assessments to identify psychological factors impacting GI symptoms, implementing evidence-based treatments to provide support to patients with GI conditions, and offering family support and psychoeducation to help manage challenges, treatment adherence, and the connection between emotions and GI health. The clinician will collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team to develop holistic care plans and address adjustment difficulties related to medical treatments. Additionally, the clinician will provide emotional support for children coping with chronic GI conditions, assist with identifying and connecting to all needed supports. Strong documentation skills are required to maintain accurate progress notes and treatment plans that meet medical, behavioral, and regulatory standards. The ideal candidate will have experience working with children and adolescents with chronic medical conditions, expertise in trauma-informed care, and a commitment to delivering compassionate, patient-centered care in an academic healthcare system setting
