Registered Respiratory Therapists provide evidence-based clinical care to some of the most critically ill patients in the United States. Caring for adult, pediatric and/or neonatal patient populations, Registered Respiratory Therapists evaluate, treat and care for patients with a wide range of lung diseases and respiratory disorders, such as asthma, bronchitis, cystic fibrosis, emphysema, COPD and lung cancer  

 

A caregiver in this position works Variable shifts, from 7:00am—3:30pm or 3:00pm—11:30pm. 


A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

  • Review, collect, and evaluate relevant clinical data. 

  • Plan, implement, and evaluate the effectiveness of Respiratory Care. 

  • Perform both basic and advanced therapeutic procedures for adults and geriatric patients. 

  • Provide respiratory care in CCU/PCU, CVSU, PICU, PACU and ER critical care areas per department orientation process standards. 

  • Formulate an appropriate respiratory care plan based upon patient assessment. 

  • Communicate and recommend changes in the respiratory care plan with other health care team members. 

  • Provide effective education to patients, students, and co-workers as appropriate. 

  • Perform both fundamental and advanced diagnostic procedures including arterial puncture, blood gas analysis, pulmonary functions, etc. 

  • Perform emergency and acute respiratory care procedures according to the departmental policy and procedure manual's quality guidelines. 

  • Participate in departmental quality assurance and hospital-wide organizational performance improvement activities. 

  • Maintain clinical and professional competence based upon established standards of practice. 

  • Assemble, check, correct malfunctions, and perform quality controls on respiratory care equipment. 

 

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • Associate's degree in respiratory care technology. 

  • RRT certification OR must be obtained within one year of hire.  

  • BCLS certification by the AHA.  

  • Active licensure by the state licensing board. 

  • Minimally competent per department orientation process standards to work in CCU/PCU, CVSU, PICU, PACU and ER critical care areas. 

 

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • Bachelor's degree. 

  • ACLS certification. 

  • Previous clinical experience in Respiratory Care.
