Position Responsibilities

  • Conduct risk assessment of HNW client policies, ensuring thorough risk assessment and adherence to underwriting guidelines

  • Evaluate insurance applications, including but not limited to medical, financial, residential, aviation, avocation and moral hazards

  • Make informed decisions on policy terms and conditions, ensuring competitiveness

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with Agency, Brokers, banca partners.

  • Provide expert advice and solutions tailored to the unique needs of affluent clients

  • Develop and refine underwriting guidelins and procedures specific to the HNW market

  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements and company policies

  • Assume responsibility for continuing training and development of more junior underwriters

  • Manage acquisition of reinsurance coverage for large cases

  • Comply with departmental procedures Identify and provide solutions to work related problems and issues

  • Ability to adapt to changing underwriting philosophy and apply new approaches

  • Strong independent problem solving ability including research and presentation of potential solutions

  • Communicate and collaborate with the field and head office colleagues to provide the highest quality and service levels to customers

  • Manage mortality on preferred block of business, through flex guidelines to ensure pricing and mortality expectations are met

  • Maintain positive and effective relationships with internal and external partners

  • Build and maintain good relationships within a self-directed team environment

  • Negotiate and manage time and resources to meet deadlines and service times


Required Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education or equivalent work experience

  • Expert knowledge of underwriting function; sound understanding of Company’s various business operations

  • Excellent analytical skills; ability to define, research and resolve problems

  • Excellent knowledge of mainframe and PC environment

  • Ability to create and maintain customer relationships

  • Ability to prioritize and work effectively under deadlines balancing published service times with an appropriate customer focus

  • Ability to comprehend, retain and apply current technical information to daily work issues

  • Solid knowledge of insurance contract law and state legislative requirements

  • Expert knowledge of company plans, riders, benefits and illustrations (and how they are marketed)

  • Expert knowledge of reinsurance marketplace (including underwriting strengths and weaknesses) to work proactively with the field where reinsurance is an opportunity

  • Thorough understanding of automatic reinsurance agreements

  • Expert knowledge of medical science, technology and terminology and their impact on mortality

  • Expert knowledge of financial and other non-medical underwriting factors
