How will you CONTRIBUTE and GROW?

Position Title: Fleet Safety Specialist
Location: Santa Fe Springs, CA
Target Base Salary Range: $75k - $80k

This position will oversee the development and installation of driver training programs, safety procedures and policies to reduce accidents, prevent loss and establish safe working conditions with the goal of reducing work related accidents and injuries. The Specialist will provide administrative support for DOT compliance and be responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the driver mentoring program for the Regional Company facilities. Duties will also include, but are not limited to, training employees, safety program planning, addressing unsafe delivery site complaints and resolving related safety issues. This position reports directly to the Safety Director and will regularly interface with Human Resources, Operations and Sales departments.
  • Educate and develop a driving culture that encourages Good Catch and Unsafe Delivery Site Submittals, incident reporting and ensures appropriate response to reports.
  • Emphasize and reinforce the Company's Zero Incident culture to all employees.
  • Communicate the directives of Airgas' EHS policies and procedures with goal of reduced accidents, injuries and property loss.
  • Execute the Smith Training program for new and existing employees who operate a vehicle for the company.
  • Perform annual driver demonstrations with all drivers who operate a vehicle for the company; prepares reports of findings with recommendations for corrective action.
  • Train personnel that operate a forklift in proper operation, inspection and maintenance of forklifts.
  • Lead, coordinate and review the Driver Mentor Program to ensure the appropriate onboarding of all new drivers.
  • Assist in internal DOT and SMS compliance audits; prepares reports of findings with recommendations for corrective action.
  • Assist in management accident and injury investigations and participate in incident reviews as part of the incident review committees.
  • Lead and promote safety, attend safety meetings, and strictly observe safety rules.
  • Willingness to travel throughout the Region, with overnight stays.
  • Must be able to wear required PPE.
  • Must comply with all company policies.
  • Must be able to operate in a drug-free workplace.
  • Devise and create training programs or procedures which will increase the proficiency in safe practices and promote safety consciousness throughout the Company.
  • Assist the Safety Director with various office and administrative duties, such as providing driver related safety training for monthly safety meetings and maintenance of safety records.

Are you a MATCH?

  • Associate's degree (preferred).
  • Minimum 3-5 years experience in a DOT or fleet safety related capacity
  • Must possess knowledge and understanding of DOT, OSHA, & DHS, rules and regulations and training requirements.
  • Ability to be available to work a very flexible schedule.
  • Proven ability to work independently and under tight deadlines in a detail oriented environment.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license, clean driving record, and appropriate level of auto insurance coverage.
  • Must possess Class A CDL with Hazmat, Airbrake, and Tanker endorsements.
  • Frequent travel (60-80% of work time)
  • Must have reliable transportation and be able to work flexible hours to meet management expectations.
