TITLE: Chief Technology Officer

WHAT YOU’LL DO: The Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Duck Creek Technologies is responsible for shaping and executing a global technology strategy that drives innovation, customer-facing engineering excellence, and long-term business performance. As a key member of the Executive Committee, the CTO oversees engineering, architecture, R&D, and technology operations across multiple portfolios. The role balances near-term project delivery with strategic modernization, ensuring enterprise-grade scalability, reliability, and alignment with market trends such as AI and cloud-native platforms. The CTO serves as a technology visionary and execution leader, representing Duck Creek externally and driving cross-functional alignment for maximum ROI and competitive differentiation.

  • Set and execute a global technology strategy aligned with product vision, business goals, and emerging industry trends including AI, cloud-native, and automation

  • Lead R&D, engineering, architecture, QA, and operations to deliver scalable, resilient, and customer-facing platform capabilities

  • Drive modernization initiatives such as cloud migration, inner-sourced tooling, DevOps, agile delivery, and management of technical debt

  • Ensure operational resiliency, security, and performance through robust infrastructure and governance

  • Embed technology-informed business strategy into cross-functional planning to enhance ROI and agility

  • Represent Duck Creek’s technology vision with customers, partners, the Board, and industry forums

  • Build and develop high-performing global engineering and technology teams, fostering accountability and innovation

  • Direct budgets, resources, and investments to maximize value and impact on business outcomes

  • Integrate emerging technologies to sustain Duck Creek’s leadership in insurance technology

  • Foster an inclusive, high-performing engineering culture anchored in delivery discipline and continuous improvement

WHAT YOU’VE DONE:   

  • Bachelor’s or Masters Degree and/or equivalent experience relevant to functional area 

  • 15+ years of leadership in technology, including executive-level experience in enterprise software

  • Proven record of orchestrating large-scale engineering and technology transformations

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES & BEHAVIORS:

  • Experience in SaaS, enterprise software, or insurance/financial services technology preferred

  • Board-level engagement and external stakeholder representation experience preferred

  • Strategic leadership in technology, engineering, and operations

  • Deep expertise in software engineering, architecture, QA, and delivery practices

  • Strong knowledge of SaaS, cloud, and enterprise platforms

  • Skilled in investment governance and ROI-driven decision-making

  • Ability to influence C-suite, Board, customer, and partner audiences

  • Proven ability to lead distributed, multi-geo technology teams

  • Cultural agility and ability to scale innovation with accountability

  • Awareness of emerging technologies and ability to integrate them into strategy

  • Commitment to agile methodologies and continuous improvement

  • Recognized as an influential leader inside and outside the organization

WHAT ADDITIONAL INFORMATION YOU MAY WANT TO KNOW:   

Travel: Up to 40%

Location: Remote US

Work Authorization: Legally authorized to work in the country of job location. The Company does not sponsor visa petitions for this position.

Duck Creek Technologies supports a flexible-first work environment and has employees throughout the United States. Based on a fair and equitable compensation philosophy, we have five (5) United States pay markets based on regional validated survey market data. The expected salary range for this position is between $280,700 and $452,900. This position is also eligible for annual bonuses. The final compensation may vary due to the above listed factors and be determined based on experience and other factors permitted by law.
