Operations Analyst provides technical analysis and support to improve operational processes and enhance overall grid reliability. Creates schedules, gathers data, tracks metrics, generates reports and develops presentations that show results and documents conclusions of various analyses. Identifies areas for improvement to increase accuracy and efficiency in scheduling, process workflows, and performance measurements.  Maintains and supports ERCOT Operations Analysis strategies and goals to meet NERC recommendations and improves upon Operation Engineering practices.  Supports the Event Analysis team that conducts analysis on the performance of the transmission system, Inverter Based Resources (renewable generation) and Conventional Generation Resources during ERCOT power system events. This position requires the Operations Analyst to work independently, interact professionally with internal and external personnel of various position levels from individual contributors to senior management, meet deadlines, and work well within a team environment.

JOB DUTIES

  • Works under the direction of a senior level engineer or supervisor/manager to complete departmental goals and assignments
  • Communicates with generator and transmission owners/operators to facilitate appropriate data submission and reporting
  • Communicate and coordinates with multiple engineering groups within ERCOT
  • Responsible for ERCOT Operations process improvement meetings and summary reporting
  • Maintains regular communication with ERCOT engineering teams providing relevant information and updates on status of ERCOT Operations process improvement activities
  • Responsible for monitoring NERC’s published Lessons Learned and Event Reports
  • Responsible for creating databases and dashboards as needed to collect and maintain data for reporting
  • Responsible for creating, reviewing, and updating departmental and organizational process and procedures as needed
  • Develops tools and implements procedures to monitor and report as needed
  • Must have strong skills with software applications and tools, spreadsheet programs, and database programs
  • Must have strong written and verbal communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills, and attention to detail to communicate and collaborate with diverse groups in a tactful and diplomatic manner
  • Builds strong professional relationships both internally and externally
  • Performs all work according to applicable rules and regulations including regulatory and safety requirements as well as organizational policies and procedures
  • Develops and maintains a good understanding of the ERCOT competitive energy markets
  • Suggest solutions to improve accuracy, efficiency, and timeline of Operations Process Improvement activities
  • May create presentations and participate in stakeholder meetings with ERCOT personnel, Market Participants and industry Regulatory agencies as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

Senior (above +)

  • Ensures staff and/or vendors perform in alignment with policies and procedures
  • Gathers data, tracks metrics, and develops and generates reports with relevant information to ensure compliance with applicable requirements
  • Analyzes data to help formulate conclusions and recommendations for mitigation and/or escalation
  • Appropriately reports findings and recommendations and communicates results of analyses to appropriate stakeholders, including maintaining regular communication with the management team, the Legal department, and/or the PUCT as needed
  • Performs root cause and trend analysis, and recommends process improvements
  • Possesses the ability to recognize upstream and downstream impacts
  • Develops detailed solutions and improvements to procedures to improve accuracy and efficiency
  • Demonstrates skills as an expert user of software applications and tools, spreadsheet programs, and database programs.
  • Continuously improves working knowledge of the market, power systems, and various types of technologies used by Market Participants within the ERCOT market
  • Serves as a departmental representative on cross-functional teams, proactively providing technical, business, and policy guidance
  • Leads the work of projects and internal audits as assigned by management
  • Acts as mentor and advisor to less experienced engineers/analysts
  • May represent ERCOT at stakeholder forums, on committees, and/or in working groups
  • Other duties as assigned

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor's Degree: Engineering, Computer Science, Business Management, or related field (Required)
  • or a combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge to a major in such fields is required which can include experience in project management, business analysis, power generation and transmission facilities

CERTIFICATION

  • Professional Engineer, Fundamentals of Engineering, Engineer-In-Training, Project Management Professional, or Certified Business Analysis Professional certificate preferred but not required.

EXPERIENCE

  • Level 1 - No minimum work experience required
  • Level 2 – Requires a minimum of 1-year related work experience in utility or energy project management, utility or energy construction, or the electric utility industry in excess of degree requirements
  • Senior Level – Requires a minimum of 5 years related work experience in utility or energy project management, utility or energy construction, or the electric utility industry in excess of degree requirements
  • Lead Level – Requires a minimum of 8 years related work experience in utility or energy project management, utility or energy construction, or the electric utility industry in excess of degree requirements

Preferred:

  • Familiarity with power plants, inverter-based resource operations, limitations, and equipment, transmission operation and equipment
  • Vendor and Project Management experience
  • Database experience

Salary and level will be based on overall experience as determined by ERCOT.

WORK LOCATION – Taylor, TX:

  • Employees will be required to be on-site in Taylor, TX at minimum 2 days per week, or more, as needed based on the business needs as determined by management
  • On-site schedules are flexible or may be rotated based on business needs as determined by the Manager
  • Remote work is required to be performed from your Texas residence.  
  • Employees may opt to work on-site more than required or 100% of the time

Expected Salary Range:

$82,344 - $131,720
