Job Description:

Overview

Operate a truck and drive to projects throughout Houston for the repair, service, and maintenance of heavy construction equipment in the field environment. This will include basic repair knowledge and troubleshooting of electrical, hydraulic, powertrain, and engine components.

Regular Job Duties

  • Operate a truck and drive to projects to perform maintenance and repair work on heavy equipment including dozers, excavators, track hoes, and related heavy highway construction equipment
  • Perform a variety of skilled duties which may involve inspection, diagnosis, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair on general heavy construction equipment and heavy trucks
  • Weld equipment for repairs
  • Operate crane for maintenance and repair work
  • Read, understand, and fill out service-related documents and paperwork in a timely manner
  • Conduct preventative maintenance inspections to ensure maintenance activities on performed in a timely manner
  • Clean work vehicle and work area as necessary to maintain a safe work environment
  • Use familiar knowledge of the construction industry including experience operating and repairing heavy equipment
  • Read and interpret specifications and manuals
  • Diagnose and repair a wide variety of mechanical, hydraulic and electrical equipment
  • Safely use hand and power tools, equipment, and diagnostic devices
  • Communicate effectively with vendors, supervisors and equipment operators
  • Exhibit a high level of safety consciousness and a clear understanding of equipment safety
  • Other unlisted duties will be assigned

Job Requirements

  • Five (5) or more years of experience as a heavy equipment/diesel mechanic, preferably in the field
  • Lift, push, or pull and move up to seventy (70) pounds. Climb, kneel, twist, and bend in a various environments
  • Must have own hand tools
  • Be able to work with high level of physical activity performing strenuous activities of a primarily hands-on nature
  • Have manual dexterity sufficient to use tools and work with the fingers
  • Be able to communicate in English via verbal and written communications
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry and utilize Construction Math concepts including calculating rate, ratio, and percent
  • Valid driver license for occasional, required travel
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with abstract and concrete variables
  • Ability to physically maneuver by foot minor obstacles at construction projects
  • Work outdoors with exposure to changing weather conditions such as rain, sun, snow, and wind
