 About the team and the role

The Focus Categories Decision Sciences team at eBay is seeking an experienced Data Scientist to support our Global Collectibles Product unit. This role is centered on advancing product discovery, measurement, testing, and predictive modeling to enhance targeting capabilities, as well as conducting custom analytics to uncover actionable insights that drive success for our business partners.

You’ll help motivate change and improve decision-making through data-driven analyses, deep business understanding, rigorous truth-seeking, and impactful insights.

In this highly visible and cross-functional role, you’ll collaborate with Collectibles product and business leaders, as well as teams across the company, to evaluate existing programs, develop new analytical solutions, and identify innovative growth opportunities. You’ll be surrounded by a diverse, intellectually curious, and fast-moving team of professionals passionate about making an impact at scale.

What you’ll accomplish

  • Partner with product, business, and analytics stakeholders to understand key initiatives and deliver insights that influence strategic decisions.
     

  • Lead the development and implementation of predictive models and advanced analytics to improve targeting and measurement across the Collectibles domain.
     

  • Design and execute experiments and tests to measure business impact and identify new opportunities for growth.
     

  • Communicate analytical results clearly, translating complex data findings into actionable recommendations for senior leadership.
     

  • Serve as a trusted data expert, integrating diverse data sources to uncover trends and patterns that inform business strategy.
     

  • Contribute to a culture of data excellence and continuous learning within the Decision Sciences team.
     

What you’ll bring

  • Exceptional business judgment and strong quantitative problem-solving skills.
     

  • Proven experience distilling complex analytical findings into clear, action-oriented insights.
     

  • Strong communication and storytelling abilities across executive and cross-functional audiences.
     

  • Expertise in building and deploying machine learning models and driving their adoption within business workflows.
     

  • Proficiency in SQL and either Python or R; strong understanding of data warehouse architecture.
     

  • Solid grounding in both descriptive and inferential statistics.
     

  • Experience with data visualization tools such as Tableau.

  • Practical experience in applying modern AI/ML techniques to solve complex business problems, particularly in e-commerce product discovery or personalization.

  • Demonstrated ability to transition ML models from research/prototype to production-ready systems, including proficiency with cloud-based ML platforms.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and stakeholders in a dynamic environment.
     

  • BS/BA in Statistics, Applied Econometrics, Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
     

  • 10+ years of relevant professional experience, or 8+ years with a Master’s degree.

The base pay range for this position is expected in the range below:

$165,600 - $221,100

Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including location, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a target bonus and restricted stock units (as applicable) in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as PTO and parental leave). Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.

If hired, employees will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
